IMHO, he would benefit greatly from a loan to somewhere where he can play regularly.

PD: I have been saying this since the decision was made to scrap the reserve side which I was shot down for and the decision was defended by some, like him or hate him that's one decision Saunders got right restoring the reserve side after the stupidity of Brian Little, this for me is Keates biggest mistake unless superiors told him he had to. This is one example of our club not getting the basics right on the playing side

Yes what were fans expecting from Marx a young kid who hasn't played any football all season, central defenders don't usually come good till their 20s, too much is expected by fans from our youngsters they need time to mature, get stronger, get experience.

The reserve team was scrapped as it was being forced to play only non league teams. Ie no facility to play against our normal type clubs. Port Vale, Crewe etc. Would not have been competitive and also the cost to carry 5/6 additional youngsters was a major factor. It was thought to place all resources into the first team.

Marx will be ok he's just not ready. A positive to come from Saturday is we now know that. It was a tough afternoon to be fair for him as he was up against a decent partnership. Good experience.

Ok so why no friendlies even? We can't expect any player who's hasn't played a competitive game in months to be up to speed and matchfit, it's short sightedness and if we can't afford one then as a club we're going nowhere fast.

Presumably nothing to stop us arranging friendlies whenever we like if teams will play us?

Friendliest are all well and good is you have enough numbers. We don't so to be a competitive friendly we would have to use some first team squad members. Imagine the uproar if someone was then injured long term because of a friendly?? Ideally someone like Marx would go out on loan, but then who is cover on the bench?? It's a double edged sword...

As far as affordability goes yes we can afford one, but at the detriment to the first team squad budget. Hence, it was agreed that they would scrap the reserves.

The plan this year was to get the defence sorted out, then next year the forwards and midfield. Keates has used the money saved on squad players to provide enough to get some quality defenders in. Would you agree?

We aren't far away from challenging and where we where last year it's a real good job being done. Yes we are all disappointed in the cup result but the team selections told us the league and getting out of it matters most. In that I am sure we can all agree on.
