Default Squad Size

Following yesterday’s exit from the cup it got me wondering if the main problem we have is actually a lack of squad size and options. We couldn’t field a reserve side if we wanted to could we? Apart from a million keepers this season the match day squad has been pretty fixed with only one/two changes because of injuries. The ‘Whatever happened to Leo Smith saga’ is the one that baffles me as the lad seemed to be doing quite well and then all of a sudden drops off the face of the planet. Ollie Marx got an appearance yesterday but again another who was around the first team a lot last year and nowhere this. Lots of loanees in squad also a concern as they aren’t here forever and take up opportunities for players we own, what is the point of loaning players like Massanka just to sit them on the bench instead of giving match day experience to someone we own? Clearly we cannot afford to be a Tranmere whereby we buy hundreds of strikers and have more options than soft mick but surely we can afford a squad of our own fully owned players rather than a mishmash of loanees from other clubs? Also what happens later in the season when the number of games played kicks in with players suffering burnout and fatigue related injury? Great to have a strong first choice eleven but feel we do need more options especially attacking ones if we are to sustain a challenge this season.

Na, it's the way we're set up and the players Dean decides to start.

LR..
Maybe the tactic is to get knocked out of the cup competition's in the first round. Not much chance of burn out some of the players hardly put a shift in.

Its the pros and cons of quality versus quantity.

Unfortunately it now means we are not geared for the cups but I am more than happy to keep the focus on league placing.

We all know the key weakness and 2 big games coming up and a chance fir DK to now show some positivity. FFS no Carra and Wedgbury

Well we certainly are short of a playmaker, left winger and two strikers (when you discount the two on loan) so yes our squad does look unbalanced and threadbare at times.

Its not particularly scientific
But i always notice in the programme that the away team always seems to have 6/7 more players in their squads than we do

The trouble is that if we had a bigger squad a lot would be lacking match fitness anyway due to no reserves.

Having no route to the first team for injured/youth players really is unbelievably short-sighted.

Not many teams above us this season, despite their squad sizes
