I agree. Louis is not greedy and just wants security.

He will leave in Jan but be trying his hardest to leave Motherwell with the Scottish league cup next month.

True, and football is usually cruel like that. But he could still get a big injury now and not move in January and be a free agent in the summer!

I hope he doesn't and that he does go in January for a decent fee.

Bowman looked a nasty piece of work in the highlights. Would be ideal for us.

BIT OF A SURPRISE Don Bircham admits he’s amazed by Motherwell hitman Louis Moult’s success in Scotland – because he once struggled to get a game at Wrexham
Bircham sold Moult to Motherwell and he was stunned by his Betfred Cup semi-final double that dumped Rangers at Hampden last week.

THE man who sold Louis Moult to Motherwell admits he’s amazed by his success in Scotland — because he once struggled to get a game at non-league Wrexham.
The Welsh outfit were in the Conference Premier, the fifth tier of English football, when Moult left for Fir Park in 2015.

Kilmarnock-born Don Bircham was Wrexham chief executive at the time and he was stunned by Moult’s Betfred Cup semi-final double that dumped Rangers at Hampden last week.

Bircham, said: “I’ve kept a close eye on Louis since we sold him.

“I got a few texts from Celtic-supporting pals in Scotland that Sunday, asking if I was enjoying the semi-final as much as they were!

He’s done terrifically well at Motherwell and to be honest, that’s been a bit of a surprise to me.

When he was with us he wasn’t what you’d have called prolific.

“He scored a few goals, but he spent a lot of time on our subs’ bench.

Since he’s gone to Scotland and scored a lot of goals I’ve had to defend Scottish football to people here who think it must be rubbish.

“My suggestion is that he’s playing with a better standard of player who are creating more chances and he’s scoring more because of that.

“He’s scored against the likes of Celtic, Aberdeen and Rangers, so he’s proved his capabilities against the best teams in Scotland.

“His two goals in the semi-final were terrific in their different ways.

“The first was a poacher’s knack of being in the right place and the second was top- quality finishing.”

While Moult didn’t set the heather alight at Wrexham, he had already displayed his knack for starring on the big stage — by scoring a double at Wembley.

Bircham said: “In 2015 we reached the final of the FA Trophy and Louis scored twice against North Ferriby United. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to win us the trophy as it finished 3-3 and we lost on penalties.

“It was a horrible weekend because the next day we had to sack the manager.

“At least Louis’ goals against Rangers were enough to get Motherwell into the final.”

Bircham is coy about what Well paid for Moult — but admits Wrexham will cash in if he’s sold by the Fir Park club.

He said: “Barry Horne, the former Welsh international, was our director of football and he did the deal with Motherwell, so I’m vague about how much we got for him.

“It wasn’t anything like six figures, I know that.

“But we did insist on a sell-on clause so if they get money for him we’d get a percentage.

We only had him for a season. He’d come through the ranks at Stoke City, where he’s from, but never made the grade and drifted down to our level.

“We got him from Nuneaton Town and from memory I don’t think we paid a fee for him.

“His career was in the doldrums a little bit and he was a bit hit or miss when he was with us.

“I believe it was Martin Foyle who recommended him to Motherwell.

“But after what he’s achieved in Scotland I’d imagine there will be a few League One and Championship clubs keeping tabs on what he’s doing at Motherwell.”

For those of you who've probably missed The Don having his say on Moults success in Scotland.

Highlights to me where we were going wrong not too along with some of the comments made.

I think vague on all transfer dealing sums it up.

Was going to say the same thing. How can the chief executive of a football club have no idea how much we paid or received for a player. Not that he's forgotten but sounds like he was never even told!

Wow. That is such a bad interview.

Sometimes it's better to say nothing.

No surprise really. Gary Warren, Newport captain during their Conference days went on to become a regular starter at In verness Caledonian.

Apart from two or three top clubs, the standard of football in Scotland is pretty abysmal.
