Default Maxi Last Night

Bit bored so watched Preston v Aston Villa last night. Some outstanding saves from Chris one of which the commentator described as 'world class'.

Just good to see one of our own doing so well - product of that youth system that we apparently don't need....

Hope he gets some game time for Wales in the up and coming friendlies.

Me too - though being honest I believe Danny Ward to be a better keeper.

Done incredibly well for himself and never looks out of place when you see his performances on Channel 5's Championship highlights show. I could go on all day about the choice to play Mayebi over him, but instead I'll just say very well done Maxi.

A word for Mayebi; when he got in the team initially he was amazing, albeit with errors here and there. If you remember the night he picked up his bad injury everyone was gutted. He had as much natural talent as Maxwell at least but I can't explain what happened to his form. When he was dropped for Coughlin it was absolutely justified as he was doing something daft and costly every single game. Plus given how frugal the club is, to have offered Maxwell nothing when he left "because he's going anyway" was an act of total idiocy.

That used to make me laugh. Chuffed for the lad.

I think if you look at their respective careers since leaving us it tells its own story. Mayebi is currently not getting a game for a team in south Africa while Maxi gets rave reviews in the top half of the second division of English football.

There is obviously no debate about who is "better" in the most meaningful sense. But it's just worth remembering that in between Maxi being dropped in a fit of pique by Saunders and his return on loan about 18 months later that we weren't screaming out for the man in possession to be dropped. Jos was/is massively gifted in pretty much every area of a keeper's skill set and I can't work out why his inability to stay switched on has never been ironed out.
