Re: Pre match disorder Bumpers Lane
Why is it only the Police are getting a kicking? Both clubs, stewards, council and stadium safety manager would have been involved.
Also, about time both sets of problem fans behaved themselves, too many 2nd chances handed out to people committing the most serious offences, time for lifetime bans to be issued in those cases. It seems to be same group in our case, you can argue they put a lot of money into the club. I don't think that's goes anyways near covering the cost of fines we've had dished out against the club. The Merseyside derby or Manchester derby as people keep using to argue police incompetence go ahead with very little trouble due to the good behaviour of 99.99% of fans, sadly we have a higher percentage who turn up looking for trouble at a high risk game. We also don't have the demand for tickets those clubs have and as I've pointed out those who cause of the trouble seem to be from the same socio-economic backgrounds on both sides. Being tanked up isn't an excuse either, you get that at the rugby with fans mixed together with little trouble. So lifetime bans are the only way to go for some, then people might start wising up a little. Pretty pathetic seeing grown men behaving in such a way,who should be acting as role models. And whatever measures or steps are taken to limit hooliganism, this one stark fact will remain. Some young men of a certain just like to fight.

Re: Pre match disorder Bumpers Lane
I've seen folks at the Races and rock concerts who had too much to drink. They can be laughable, at times, and pose no great threat to others. What I witnessed on Wednesday was tribal behaviour from a dispondent group. My 82 year old, osteoporotic mum could have been on that train from Wxm General to Chester. She would have been scared by the antics of those juveniles. At the end of the day, some folks just don't know how to behave. Their parents might just be cringing as they have done a poor job.

Re: Pre match disorder Bumpers Lane
I know we can't change things in UK but you only have to look at the way they do things football in the USA. Folk all travel to the ground in cars ,mostly as families , food and drink readily available in the stadium but no one gets drunk, no obscene chanting just an enjoyable day out. It would be asking too much to get the juveniles over here who kick off to change and yes, their parents are probably just as much to blame. So unless you have to , best go to a football match under your own steam , avoid coaches and trains as that is where the trouble makers are and always will be

If you go to an american football tailgate party before a match then there are plenty of drunk people. It's just they go for a party and have fun rather than a fight |

Even "local" derby's can be hundreds of miles apart. It's a completely different ball game. (Pardon the pun) Another aspect to consider is the cost. It's not unreasonable to pay $200 for a seat in the stadium. Very much a middle and upwardly mobile clientele. Lots of fans do get drunk, inevitable when you are watching 3 to 4 hours of stoppages interspersed with some 'football' but the stewarding and policing at the stadia are normally excellent. The spaces in and around the stadias and the concourses are large and the catering is brilliant. You get what you pay for. Last edited by Quay Red; 12th November 2017 at 13.26:36.. |

Re: Pre match disorder Bumpers Lane
I don't condone football violence but I do accept it's been a big part of the game in this country for decades, some might argue it's been here from the very beginning. It comes down to a sense of belonging, entrenched in the mindset of men passed down from generations.
If you're a 'modern football fan' who enjoys a sterile, soulless version of the game I'd suggest the premier league is the best option. What on earth has happened there? I have zero interest in the Shiite that it is these days.
