Default One striker

Assuming that either we fail to sign any new striker, or the new one is as effective as the current crop then perhaps playing one up front is the solution to out attacking failings.

As we are fantastically placed, largely due to our defensive ability it would seem mad to change the way the team defends, but how would we be able to keep that but change in attack?

It is repeatedly pointed out that we fail to both score and create. We could almost certainly create more with Kelly in the middle, especially if we kept Wedgbury and Wright behind him. We haven't got conclusive evidence, but the 2-2 draw suggested Kelly in the middle, with the current formation weakens the defence. Could we score more though?

My choice for the one front man would be Boden with Holroyd behind him. Wright and Wedgbury would then have three short ball options (Wingers or Holroyd) and we would have zero incentive to hoof to Boden. The wingers should get better quality ball and Holroyd will be more involved.

I can't convince myself that this would be any better but I think its worth trying for a three game stint. It should have no impact on the defence.

Never a fan of one striker up front - even if he is a world beater he will be far too isolated and win nothing - even with two up front we currently win nothing.

Boden has disappointed and out of our four strikers you have probably selected the 4th choice with least game time - he's not big enough or strong enough to be the one man battering ram that holds the ball up and lays it off to others.

Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear - I would leave as it is and contemplate a change as and when a new striker arrives - but to me whoever it is will just be a replacement for Reid or Massanka with the formation remaining the same - two effective blocks of four with two strikers.

Wasn't it Wilkin who kept playing one striker up front ? even when we were at home against lowly opposition ?

I would go with 433 and play 3 of the 4 up front. May have to draft Freeman in is DK cannot get a forward in Jan.

Well when he mention his offer for a striker Thursday he said we will know if accepted in 24hrs, now I don't know about anyone else I've noticed this year fly by & a day seems to go with the blink of an eye. His 24hrs is a long time.

If we had as many decent strikers as threads about them we'd champions already.

With no game until Saturday it would be foolish to sign a player on loan now instead of the middle of next week.
Perhaps the deal is done , but not announced yet?

but can you honestly see Keates do this? and don't you think the well-drilled defensive training would go out of the window? (I've always said I prefer 4-3-3)

My choice of Boden was because of his touch, the difference between the ball flying over Massanka's head and Boden's head is fairly small. I suspect that Boden can finish better than Massanka and pass better but currently he either gets the ball too early into an attack, or not at all.

Not unless there is a Carl Darlington influence as he prefers 433 and DK 442.

My opinion is play the formation that suits the players rather than shoehorn them into a formation as AM did after the break up of the Wright/Pogba/Speight trio.

DKs summer recruitment is based on 442 but without the key position of CF filled. Holroyd can always play on the right with Rutherford on the left.

Equally that could work in a 442 so lets hope DK can find the missing piece of the jigsaw up front, improve the midfield, get cover at CB and replace the player on his way out this week.

LOL. Its going to be a busy Jan.
