If we start offering players £1600 per week in the fifth division then it's a headloss. I don't know how many times this has to blow up in the faces of clubs who do it before people realise it's a folly.

Surely it's up to Dean Keates to decide that, if the finances are in place with the help of BTB then go for it, we are top of the table

As we didn't pursue it Keates must have decided no. He is trying to build a team, something he won't achieve too well if over 80k a year went to just one man.

I remain of the view we need a permanent striker signed up ASAP. However on the wage point I don't think we can afford to pay anyone £1,600 a week.

It's not just that salary, which would be very high but might be sustainable, more the fact if someone came in on that sort of money many of the other players would understandably also want pay rises. So don't think we could afford that sort of wage.
