Default Re: The Builbase FA Trophy

The Trophy games can be used to good effect.
It allows players to have game time rather than 2 weeks off.
Also allows some tactical changes to be tried even if we were to lose.
I'd be inclined to try to get through the first couple of rounds and take it from there. If we lose, no problem, but it's better for players to play rather than sit at home doing nothing.

Here's an alternative option.

Full strength team every time and go for a Wembley win (with a bit of luck of the draw along the way).

A chance to make some serious prize money and being one of the 'big fish' in the National league sea we should have a better chance than most clubs to progress.

Can we afford to dismiss this competition as a promotion distraction at our level.

And from a players perspective will they want the chance to play in a final at Wembley in realistically the only option they will ever have ?

It's possible to go up and do well in the Trophy in the same season but it would mean playing a significant number of additional fixtures and disruption and re arranged fixtures to our league problem - supporters greatest concern which is already being highlighted is squad depth - we are quite lightweight in numbers are n't we. However for the 1st Round date following the away league fixture at Macclesfield on Saturday 9 December we don't have another league match until Saturday 23 December - that's 12 clear days to be inactive - a time for rest or keep ticking over with a strong team ?

I agree, the players have had long enough gaps between games, nothing wrong in wanting to keep that competetive edge playing games brings and win some prize money at the same time.

we dismissed the fa cup as a ‘distraction’ so the fa trophy is a waste of spunk and I wouldn’t waste my time with this competition.

Some of our poorer performances come after a longer break. It's not just confined to us and this league either.

This is true we should keep in the winning mentality and aim to progress in this competition.

Leamington away would be a good one.

Squad depth wise we will have to play some first teamers won't we?

To be honest the prize money given by the FA for the FA Trophy is dire. They're always bleating on about non league football getting a bigger share of their vast budget but looking at this year's prize money there's little or no incentive to put out your best players. Overnight accomodation and travel for a Wembley Final would take off a vast chunk of any winnings.

Preliminary Round winners (64) £3,000
First Round Qualifying winners (72) £3,250
Second Round Qualifying winner (36) £4,000
Third Round Qualifying winners (40) £5,000
First Round Proper winners (32) £6,000
Second Round Proper winners (16) £7,000
Third Round Proper winners (8) £8,000
Fourth Round Proper winners (4) £10,000
Semi-Final winners (2) £20,000
Final runners-up (1) £30,000
Final winners (1) £60,000
