Latter gives you a chance of a clean win. Former really doesn’t.

Centre back, unless you’re playing man to man, has to work as a team and swap roles. Means that one of you will usually get a clear run to head.

Our tactics are quite hard to execute. Few teams get to the byline with us as we either push up and invite the ball over the FB but then have centre backs coming across (a trap, as one of our pre season refs described it) or we sit deep and let them pump high balls centrally.

The two teams to have sussed that, Fylde and Aldershot, play it on the floor down the middle and then in the floor between the CB and FB.

I actually think Hurst has looked more suited to our current issues in terms of getting forward but Roberts is a proper defender and he’ll be up there come season end.
We have completed half the season and while I also like Roberts I personally believe he is outscored in nearly every game by Smith/Pearson. In my eyes therefore he will have to go some to be named above either of the a forenamed two when we are handing out plaudits at season end.

Yeh someone is going to have to have special 2nd half of the season to challenge those 2. As I stated earlier Roberts has improved and I think is now looking at a 7/10 player more consistently.

You could always jump early like Bishop used to

Judged on clearances the CBs have been magnifcent. Judged on where they land those clearances it’s a lot less clear cut. People tend to vote for the visible stuff sadly. A keeper who keeps clean sheets and has a memorable save every game will always score higher than the keeper who talks well and positions the defence so well they have only the odd long distance punt or deflection to deal with.
For me they are - Pearson is an inspiration and Manny is just pure class in my book. I know you wish to educate us all about distribution but just a part of the story and I am not so sure it is quite so bad as you seem to suggest.

Best attacking full back we’ve ever had? I’ll be first to answer my own question and say Alan Dwyer .....(on a train and bored)....

Alan Dwyer was very good in an excellant team, pace, skill and strength but Carlos Edwards just beats him on sheer class.

I seem to remember Steve Ingle being pretty good going forwards.
