He never mixed it up. He jumped early and consistently missed. He would frequently do it against smaller players and still fail. He also mastered something which I see in Holroyd. See a player with the ball. Recognise the expectation from the crowd or team mates that you can chase it down, so, start a tad late and then run just far and quick enough to make it look like you made the effort despite there not being a hope you’ll make it. It makes you look like you made the effort whilst preserving energy for the glory runs you actually want to make.

I have expounded at length on Bish previously but the short version is poor technique off the ground with arms and legs.

What strengths were they exactly?

If you win the ball it’s effective of course but your argument was that Bishop was doing it deliberately didn’t stack up for reasons already pointed out. You do realise how bad he actually was in the air don’t you? I don’t get why you used him as an example. It makes no sense whatsoever.

At the end of the day he was utter shit. By the time he arrived here he was shot body and mind had given up.

Yeh agreed.
Les Ferndinand jumped early, was able to hang in the air and win the headers - clearly a strategy design to win the ball. Bishop just couldn't complete in the air so the point that he jumped early wasn't about him winning the ball and just meant it highlighted his failure even more......LOL.

An effective measure to assess how serious a player is challenging for a header is to count their remaining teeth and how many times they have broken their nose.

As for timing the jump take a master class from Ronaldo - he may be arrogant but he's no wimp and a wonderful header of a ball. (didn't enjoy writing the last bit but give credit when its due)

Think the best I've ever seen for 'jumping early' to head it was Graeme Sharp for Everton, had it off to a tee, Bishop just jumped...

Bishop well gone and we have a thread on him useless at heading 😂😂

Yes he was crap but he could score goals at times, now in the present day we have until recent events had 4 strikers who are all crap in the air couldn't head a balloon. And bar one couldn't hit a barn door with nobody infront of them.
