Default Re: Brian Flynn book signing at the Harrogate game

I grew up watching the teams Flynn put together from the early nineties. They were my happiest days watching our club. We seemed to pull off a giant killing every season. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you can’t doubt what he achieved here.

The “he got lucky on his signings” quote is one of the craziest I’ve ever heard!
Connolly, Bennett, trundle, Marriott, Carey, ward, Ferguson, Carlos etc. That’s some lucky streak that.

Similar to me though I started in the latter Dixie years.

I still never get the argument that managers shouldn't sit in the stands to watch the games. Its a much better view, you can see pretty much everything that happens much clearer than at pitch level.

A quick phone message to Reeves on the sidelines to filter to the players..

Don't see the problem..

I liked Flynn. Was he perfect, no. Is he deserving of the respect and reputation he had here, yes.

He must have been doing something right - not many managers last at one club for over 12 years.

He gave us some good entertaining football, some players who are now legends in our memories - the Arsenal win but the greatest night for me was 'Northampton away' when we clinched promotion infront of 4,000 of our own fans - the icing on the cake when it all came right.

I was also at Tranmere for the Friday night ending too - all good things come to an end eventually and nothing last's forever - there's no argument that under BF we had some truly great times.

I had the misfortune to be sitting amongst Tranmere season ticket holders that night, a mate of mine was a Tramps fan. When they scored the first goal, I thought it wise to applaud it, by the third, fourth and fifth I couldn't care less if they noticed I didn't jump up and cheer.

Oh for the days of 3rd division mid table mediocrity, will they ever return?

Typical small man syndrome cost him his job. Refused to move to wxm, played with only one winger and watched all the matches from the stand.
The only job he ever wanted was the Burnley one.

94-95 my dad started taking me the matches so the majority of my best days at the football were under Flynn.

Football wise I cant see why there would be any animosity towards him but there used to be all sorts of runours flying about, after he left about over indulgent 'expenses' he used to charge the club.

Flynn was a class act. Not without his flaws but who is? Looking back and given the cards he was dealt he was one of our best managers.

Cracking rant [Removed User] and do you know what I agree with all of it, so called fans sticking the boot into Flynn need a bloody good shake as you say we had one of our greatest times under him, how many would like us to be in that position of Division One now?I also agree about Keates being given the time to develop, even if I do get frustrated with his style of play.

This. He wasn't perfect by all means and I did used to have the odd moan, but after what has happened since, looking back they were special times which I am so glad to have witnessed. loved watching players like Benno, Karl, Marriott, Peter Ward, Bryan Hughes, fantastic footballers.

The promotion season of 92/93 was my favourite season ever. Great days.
