First of all well done Bristol City a deserved win even if they did have some luck with United hitting the crossbar and post, but they worked hard were more hungry for the win & it brought back memories of when we were a footballing side and pulled of shock wins, 2 legs against Citeh though it would take a miracle to reach the final.

I too remember the games against bristol City, the thing is will we ever see them days again? I doubt I will unless I live to a ripe old age.

I've also noticed more and more teams are having success by playing the game how it should be played attacking football.

As to what do we have to do to get back where we should be the simple answer is hope some Wrexham fan wins the European lottery, because without lots of money we are limited even if we scrape promotion, the money in the game is getting more grotesque season after season and we can't expect to progress with raffles, begging bowls and gate money alone, better players cost more and want paying more, in the past we had a great youth set up and sales of good players helped us keep afloat and progress. Now football has changed the big clubs get the best of these players when they are still at school.

If I'm honest I think we are at our level now or bottom reaches of the 2nd division unless we join the sugar daddy circus because it's all about the spondoolies now thanks to sky and Murdoch.

I think attacking football works in the Championship - not so much at our level.

As for money clubs doing well, Forest Green are really struggling now they are restricted to using 66% of their turnover on player wages. I believe the way the club is structured now, if we got promoted we could then go on to establish ourselves as a League 1 side. The tricky part is getting out of the National League!

You mention Forest Green struggling, if they are relegated do they get that
£1 million pound or whatever it is, parachute payment that would help them to dominate again financially?

What a kick in the teeth that would be

I was nearly sacked as I was off ill on the Saturday and didn't go to Bristol. Honestly.

I agree with the entire post and bloody sad it is. Who'd have thought teams like Fleetwood, Burton and Forest Green Rovers, but to name 3, would be financially better off than us and playing at a higher level than us.

As you say, we need a sugar-daddy to help.

I went to Ashton Gate for that match in my youth. Golden memories.

Not sure about this year but the league 2 basic award payment for last season was 472,000. Unless things have changed teams get the full amount in their first season and half in the second.
Going up would be worth about a million extra in funding because teams in league 2 also get about 430,000 from a premier league solidarity fund

Ha, my son doesn't believe I used to watch games stood on a milk crate!!
