Default My first game at the racecourse for 10 years!

My first game at the racecourse for 10 years and my son's first ever. We have been going to away games but great to be back and for him to see the ground. We had a great day

First off thanks to everyone who replied on the parking and stand thread. We parked on Crispin Lane and went in the Yale stand. Worked perfectly.

A few thoughts -

Seeing the flats and the mess behind the kop was annoying.
Club shop was was great.
The ground was in good condition, better than I remember. Son was impressed. Facilities were good. Staff all round were great, stewards, club shop, food stalls.

Warm up - very professional. Team possesion and pressing drill. Then each team unit (defence/midfield/attack) doing individual drills. Respect to Carl Darlington, that stuff is awesome.

The game.

Very good first half. Job done. Second half was a bit dull but I suspect they were just seeing the game out. Handball was funny.

The team seem to have a good team spirit.

Players

Dunn - 2 great saves at key moment in the first half. The low left hander was top notch. Good with his feet. Had a good game. People ironically cheering every catch is not on.

Roberts - very impressive. A pure defender.
Jennings - very good. Offers more going forward then Roberts. Can use both feet. Made a couple of great blocks.
Pearson - Wow, what a player!
Smith - Solid as always.

Wedgebury - Sits and is always available for the ball. Keeps the game moving and good defensively. Not eye catching but effective
Kelly - good player! Very neat and tidy.
Rutherford - I was very impressed. Good workrate, tricks and delivery.
Holroyd - Brilliant. Good versatility to play out wide.

Boden - Has some nice touches and works hard. Links up play well, especially with Holroyd. I can undertsand the criticism, lacks pace and not great in the air. But I doubt he has ever had them attributes. Good as a number 10 and as part of the squad.

Miller - We need someone with his pace. He gave us an out ball everytime from the back. Turning the defenders and clever, direct runs.

Carrington - Good versatility and a good asset for the squad. Played left and right back reasonably well. Not sure why he was jockeying with his arms out, almost like he wanted to give away a handball. Baffling.

All in all a very good day! My son has been out in his Wrexham shirt and tracky top today and my daughter loved her Wrexham Meercat

Good man! Nice to see so much positivity on here. At times Torquay made us look like world beaters which was good of them.

Hopefully you and your lad will be able to return before we get into the Championship!

Good post and good to see how fresh eyes saw the team.

Your comments about Dunn are spot on. The lad made a couple of good saves and has to put up with ironic cheering afterwards. Annoyed me

First game for 10 years and we win 4-0?

You do realise you have to come to every home game from now on?

Not blaming RP for all the jeering, booing, ironic applause and negativity towards some players in particular, but quite often some of the idiotic comments on here do seem to be copied and catch on with some of the hecklers. It is counter productive and Dunn is probably strong enough and experienced enough to deal with it, but others aren't.

Sorry if it appears the usual negative posters have had a bit of a kicking on here after a win over a very poor Toquay side, but there does seem to be a general frustration about the level of negativity about everything Wxm FC, when most can see we are clearly on the up.
