Sam Wedgbury's my favourite player !
Well done to everyone involved - this is the type of story we like to see and makes you proud to be part of this great club. Things are improving all round, a good squad not just on the field but off it too, and these things don't go unnoticed - no coincidence that my lad has Wedgbury on the back of one of his shirts - he really is class. Well done Sam ! .................................................. ....................................... You'll all remember that the players and Media Team went to visit the children at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital over Christmas to spread some cheer. One child, Thomas Jones, aged 7, who attends Ysgol Tanyfron, had only just arrived back from theatre as the Wrexham AFC players arrived on the ward to say hi. He obviously wasn't feeling very well and was "gutted" he wasn't able to spend more time with the players. Thomas' mum, Jayne, contacted the club on facebook the next day to thank us for visiting and told the Media Team that Thomas was gutted he couldn't have pictures with the players and wasn't well enough to talk to them more. The Media Team decided that Thomas should have his day with the players, be able to spend a little extra time with them and pose for pictures. So they offered Thomas a family ticket to a game of his choice. Thomas proceeded to pick a cracking game - with his Mum, Dad and cousin Ruby he came along to watch us beat Torquay United 4-0 at the Racecourse as special guests of the Media Team. After watching the game, they were escorted over to the media room and waited for the players. They were introduced to the Media Team, watched how the players were interviewed and helped cameraman Rob Stead get the right shots with the camera. Manager Dean Keates and captian Shaun Pearson spent some time with Thomas, but he was waiting for one player in particular. During the hospital visit, Thomas decided that Sam Wedgbury was his favourite player, as the midfielder was concerned about how unwell he looked and was very kind to him. When Sam arrived he spent around 10 minutes with Thomas signing autographs, posing for pictures and chatting. He then met hat-trick hero Chris Holroyd and the rest of the players as they came through the room, managing to fill up his autograph book! Jayne Jones said: "It was lovely of the players to give up their free time to visit the patients on childrens ward. Thomas loved seeing them but was gutted he had only just returned from theatre after having his tonsils removed. "He was still really drowsy and was feeling very sick. The players left some lovely gifts for all the patients. This included an autograph book that the players present on the day signed. "We contacted Gemma (Hogan - Media Team) to thank her for the presents Thomas recieved in hospital. Gemma very kindly organised for Thomas to attend a Wrexham home game where he could meet the rest of the players to fill up his autograph book. "The players were brilliant with both Thomas and Ruby and we cant thank everyone involved enough for giving us this opportunity. Both had a fab day they said they cant wait to go back to school to tell all their friends about it and show them their autograph books. Thomas can't stop talking about it." Thomas told his Mum that it was "a dream come true" being able to meet the players and since his hospital stay has returned to playing football himself, for Brymbo Lodge YFC under 8's. His mum commented: "He thinks he's a pro footballer now!" We are glad you enjoyed your day with us Thomas and we look forward to seeing you and your family again soon |

This bunch of players have really thrown themselves into the community - great to see their dedication both on and off the pitch. Great character selection from DK - often an overlooked quality in a player. Think the club is in a good place.

Re: Sam Wedgbury's my favourite player !
I always enjoy reading these sorts of stories from any football club but the stories from the one I support are always slightly better. I can't help but admire the footballers who will take a bit of extra time out of their day for young fans.
