Don't remember any names but the PE teacher and the woodwork teacher could well have been involved. I was in the part of the playground which escaped the caning . Those who were in one corner were all caned just rounded up lined up and given the thwack. May have made the papers at the time but was probably not seen as important enough to take forward

A lot of the people who complain about courtesy being missing today are the same people who grumble at "PC gone mad" when they're expected to show courtesy to groups of people they have no time or respect for.

I think people will find that it was the rugby international Harris. The art guy was a nasty item. OM played for Rhos Aelwyd before going to Cardiff College. I think you will find he was North Walian. I found him quite approachable but he could be very strict if he felt you let him down. Banned me from the cricket team for a whole season because I would not do his athletics! Don't think he would have got very far with slippering me. Was also very welcoming when I later brought a school team on tour. Not by any means all bad but the other two were.

Danny Harris rings a bell. Went on to play Rugby League?

Of course, O M Edwards, not Jones, my old memory! I’m sure from South Wales, but still remember him as a bully, who frightened the first years, including me, with his pump punishments for the heinous crimes such as forgetting your towel. I remember him asking the class who would like to play soccer today? A few unknowing souls put their hands up, to be told we don’t play cissy games like that, so you’re doing laps of the 9 acre all lesson!
Anyway, were some great times there, despite the way things were run.

OMO also played amateur football for Wales whilst teaching at GP. He also played for Wrexham reserves. One game in particular, he played midfield alongside Arfon, who was coming back from injury. Must have been the shortest midfield in the club's history!

I was in Grove Park from 1968-74 as a pupil I might add!
The rugby teacher was Brian Watkin a true South Walian who had no time for football
The late Owen Edwards (O.M) was a football man through and through and was from Rhos.
The 2 of them paled into insignicance when Ron Pierce joined the staff at the time of the comprehensive educational system.

I've said before that some teachers would be jailed now for the physical abuse if they did now what they did to us back then.
Can't speak about Ken Barnes but I read that he had said previously that he didn't know about any piddy files, he was only interested in those who wanted to play football.

Danny Harris was the guy who caned the pupils who tried to get into the building when it was raining one break time. He played Union for Wales a handful of times before moving on to League.
He bough himself a motor scooter so he could keep up with his classes on the cross country course around the lake in Acton Park
Jim Johnson taught art at the time and he was ok. Was the nasty piece of work Chisel Chops (aka E L Jones) who taught Woodwork and Art
