Not one person has said that raping children was OK. How dare you even suggest that.
However, a bobby on the beat could do his job without getting reported to the IPCC, teachers caned pupils, parents smacked children etc. and this is what people mean by saying things were different then.
Some things were worse, some things were better, but accept it or not, things were very different then.
One thing was not though, that is views on rape. Always was and always will be abhorent and not condoned by any of our fellow posters.
Things were exactly the same, a child who was abused (sexually physically or mentally) in the 70's, 80's or indeed any time, will feel the same as a child who experiences the same now. Nothing has changed. we obviously see it from different angles!

Ken Barnes lived in Sandringham Av. His son Peter used to play football in the street there as a youngster. Didn't Ken score ten succesive penalties for Wrexham. I have a memory of a 10/10 headline in the Leader but perhaps I dreamt that.

oh, and if a 'bobby on the beat' were doing his job, properly, he wouldn't be reported.

Jim Johnson taught art at the time and he was ok. Was the nasty piece of work Chisel Chops (aka E L Jones) who taught Woodwork and Art
Thats it . Now it has all come back to me . You must have been there at the same time? There were some good teachers who treated you with some respect but you had to watch your back with Harris and his mate . There was a German teacher who used to aim the wooden board duster at anyone he disliked especially after lunch which for him was definately liquid (name of Hargreaves?)

There at the same time too. Pretty sure I only remember his nickname, was it Trigger. Bald head and stank of drink, at any time of the day.

Yes, Jimmy Johnson was fine, a decent golfer I remember, would repair his clubs in the vice at the front of the class. Harris borrowed bikes also to keep up, but he never knew we diverted into Geoff Scott’s wonderful grandma’s for tea and biscuits where we listened to his brother Andy practising his guitar then rejoin the runners on the way back!
Twigger was pure Yorkshire would also throw his hush puppies at you sometimes.
Earnie had the chair leg up his sleeve, the science teacher (name???) had rubber tubing and pulled you by the sidies, owww!, nutty Craig , smelly Whale maths, Butch, Hank ( geography, used to tell people to jump out of upstairs window), Hovis, Max Freudmann, German, an Olympic medalist I believe, had the travel agent, used to pull your head back with his fingers up your nose ( only in jest of course!) Any youngsters reading this might wonder if it was the same planet! Happy days??!!!
