Really spooky looking back at those fixtures, many of which I attended.

They were at a time when through our history we were probably at our peak playing games against big city clubs - we had never been as high previously and had a great, entertaining, attacking team full of characters - sadly the golden days didn't last that long.

8,471 on Saturday sounds great and in a way it is but in reality 6,500 ish home fans compared to the numbers turning up in the late 70's early 80's is now small fry and would only be the equal of our lowest attended game then.

Still think there is massive potential to tap into throughout North Wales but the whole stadium needs redevelopment particularly the Kop end to drag it screaming into the times we now live.

I think the key is how the attendances reducedyear 1 to year 4. Shows fans want to see a successful team. The league they are in is almost immaterial.

You are probably too young to remember Rob, but Wrexham/NE Wales was absolutely decimated by job losses and recession especially in coal, steel and manufacturing in that 1980-82 period. The fortunes on the pitch would be relevant but that was a truly awful period for the town and area and the main reason by far crowds dropped was unemployment and recession.

Hooliganism would have put some people off as well in that period; crowds were plummeting nationally off a cliff in the early 1980's due to these factors, even at the really successful clubs of that time like Liverpool, Everton and United.

I was going to see them in that halcyon period . Was looking only the other day at attendances in 77/78 which started off at around 5K but by the season end and we were near promotion it was 15-18K . The last match against Peterborough there were an estimated 23K inside the ground. Reasons for lower crowds from 1980 onwards entirely valid but equally so it was less standing and more seated.
