Re: Wrexham v Man Utd 1957
I believe that the 36000 plus crowd that night is the only time a league club has had an attendance higher than its population
At the time Wrexhams population was around 34000

Re: Wrexham v Man Utd 1957
I was nine at the time, and my Grandparents lived in Maesgwyn Road, I cannot remember much about the game, but I remember the crowds and how long it took to get into the Racecourse. It was like being packed into a tin of sardines. The Man U. team then could have been one of the all time greats had it not been for the aircraft disaster at Munich airport.

Re: Wrexham v Man Utd 1957
I was there as a schoolboy, with my father, on top of the Kop. It was quite difficult to see because of the huge crowd, and I remember distinctly a man in front of me exclaiming 'Good God, I've just seen a piece of green grass'! Alas, Wrexham were comprehensively outclassed by a great team. At the very beginning of the game, David Jones on the Wrexham wing almost broke through, but I have no memories of Wrexham causing MU problems after that. I still have a mental image of poor Albert Parker, the Wrexham full back trudging off diconsolately, head bowed, at the end of the game after suffering a torrid afternoon. After the game I remember the huge crowds waiting for trains on Wrexham station, and seeing one of my teachers from Llangollen G.S. at the front of the platform almost being swept into the wrong train by the pressing throng! Not the greatest day for Wrrexham perhaps, but an unforgettable experience.

I knew quite a few of the lads that lodged with her and never heard a bad word said about her. Did George work on the turnstiles? I was on the cop for the Manu game but can't rember much about it. When I think that there was no terracing on the cop, just a cinder bank it was amazing that no one was hurt.
