At the time Wrexhams population was around 34000
Could be interesting to know what the town's population was when 29000 watched the derby v Chester in Div3N prior to the war.
It could have also exceeded the town population.

Was just under 8 and my mum wouldn't let me go with my older brother , who probably refused to look after me! Took me years to forgive either!
As for best team at the Cae Raes I do remember being astounded by the Liverpool team of c 1963/4 with Hunt , St John etc .They were the best I saw and I think we lost three nil !

Phildee,
Sorry to hear about your mum and George.
You would be very rich if got 10p a pot for all the tea she made over many years, not just for the 1st team also the reserves even the schoolboys games at the ground.
George was a good pal when we worked together took me under his wing and trained me on the job, when he left I used to have a chat with on the turnstills quite a shock to hear he has passed away.

I am in the 36,000 camp.Did my National Service in the Midlands with Keith Matthews ( Llay ) now very sadly not with us and PeterThomson who on Keith's strong advice persuaded Cliff Lloyd ( Wrexham's then manager) with a little support from myself having gone to the Midlands to watch Peter in action bought him out -----he was not National Service like Keith and myself. Peter joined Wrexham in September 1956 and was transferred to Derby County, I think at the end of that season. The three of us were very close friends and together with other Wrexham players ( Keith was on the books of Wrexhan FC) and our wives and girl friends, we had many happy saturday nights at The Pendine Hotel now a Care Home.
The day of the Man U match the WRexham players with friends male and female plus my wife and I (Peter again) were treated to morning tea and coffee plus cakes and scones at Stevens Cafe on Hope St. To make it a day to remember Peter gave us 2 complementary tickets for the Main Stand.
Peter and Keith were both very important members of the station's football team, hence Keith's advice to Cliff LLoyd, and Steven's Cafe closed in the late 60's/early 70's I believe. Peter Thomson was a strong Geordie.
Apologies for any info out of order

Were there Man Utd fans at the game and if so where were they standing ? Was their segregation in those days ?
