Wrexham v Man Utd 1957
The great Duncan Edwards played for Man Utd and England and to mark 60th anniversary of his death Dudley Council have opened an exhibition based on his life. The Dudley boys life is celebrated in his home town and even 60 yrs on people still visit his grave and then his statue on the main street. They also head to the Priory estate to see where he grew up. Now there is the exhibition of his life in the Dudley Archives centre. Open I believe until March. Can anyone else recall the match at the Racecourse where Wrexham Keeper Billy Waters tried his best to stem the tide of such a talented group of Manchester boys? |

I was on the Kop that day. A nice sunny day and a fabulous performance by the great 'Busby Babes'. They completely outclassed our Wrexham team ( which was a good side which had been unbeaten for 18 games, not counting the one previous to the Man U game!). A fantastic team including Duncan Edwards, Tommy Taylor etc. who were much too fast and talented for our lads. Great day apart from the result!

That must be the best club side to have ever played at the Racecourse?
Way before my time but my Dad who as well as supporting Wrexham as with me is a lifelong Liverpool fan always has maintained Edwards was the best British player he's ever seen in the flesh and could have been absolutely anything. If you look at that United team line up wow. |

Re: Wrexham v Man Utd 1957
Qued up for hours to get tickets in the boys pen,we had to go to a reserve game to be able to get the tickets for the game.
The little pink programme I treasured was thrown away by mother when she cleared my bedroom after l got married along with all my other programmes. But the memory's will never leave me of Tommy Taylor,Duncan Edwards and the rest of the Busby Babes,or the 34,000 something at the racecourse that day. |

Re: Wrexham v Man Utd 1957
I can sympathise with Farndon red. My mum also threw out my programmes when l went to college including the Man United one. Even worse l had the autographs of all their players including Duncan Edwards
My mum was Mrs D who some of the older scribes on here will remember |
