Default Colliers Park Development - FAW

Just had an email off Glyndwr:

Sports students at Wrexham Glyndwr University will benefit from investment in Colliers Park training facility.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is to sign a lease with the University and plans to redevelop the Gresford complex into a National Development Centre.

A 28-day consultation is now underway, and proposals for the site are available to view in reception on Plas Coch campus before being submitted to Wrexham council in the Spring.

These include improved surfaces and an enhanced provision for the community and local football teams, as well as revamped off-pitch accommodation.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar said: “The investment in Colliers Park will be great news for students on our football and sports coaching degrees, who will prosper in these new surroundings.

“The FAW’s plans are very impressive and support the University’s Campus 2025 redevelopment programme, as well as the community.

“It is also a big boost for football in this region and the FAW in North Wales, so we fully support their vision.”

A spokesman for the FAW added: “The proposed development demonstrates the FAW’s commitment to North Wales and represents a significant investment in the area.

“With the investment to develop high quality training facilities, the FAW aims to deliver national training, coach education, improvements to national and regional player development performance pathways and amongst creating further competitive opportunities in North Wales.

Wrexham Glyndwr University had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the FAW in respect of football and coaching degrees, which also looked to establish women and girls teams and leagues in partnership with Wrexham AFC, the council and education institutions in north east Wales.

Still makes me very angry that weve lost our training ground due to the actions of the scumbags.

Surely we have a moral right to come back home....Keates got Pearson to sign before showing him 9acres. Says it all really.

As with most thing's, the devil is in the details. It would be interesting to see if this money that the FAW is providing to update the facility includes Wrexham FC first team being allowed to use it at worst case at peppercorn rent. Imagine the FAW providing cash yet no benefit to the largest club in the region bearing in mind what's happened in the past. If there's 'no benefit' to WXM FC then in the long term we should do what we did with colliers, identify and purchase land apply for planning and build our own facility. Yes, this will take time and lots of cash but a good cup run with an away day at one of the big premier boys will help this reality.

The FAW represent all sides in the area, not just Wrexham AFC. If they let us train on there, there's a case for every side in the area to do the same.

Us training at Colliers is sadly a thing of the past I believe.

The only big difference here Owain is the fact we built the bloody place with the money we received from Brian Hughes’s move to Birmingham.

It's absolute bollocks I know, but it isn't the FAW's mess to clean up. We have to make a strong case if we are to train there again. I can't see it.
