I've Still got somewhere a cassette recording of the match which my mum sorted (I was at the game). I think the commentator was Idwal Robling if I remember right. What a game that was.

After the game, I remember honking up on Carling Black Label served in a Border pub! In those days I truly thought that we could beat anyone at the Racecourse. In the Newcastle away tie, we got hit by half bricks when we were sitting in the stands. Nice people! Had to shelter from thugs on the way back to the club organised train trip. The late 70s were like a military operation.

Quite simply, one of the best, if not the best, performances I have ever seen from a Wrexham team. Newcastle were simply played off the park.

When Dixie smacked in the equaliser at St James Park in the first game The Geordies were in the middle of The Blaydon Races, they stopped in mid-verse. Amazing. Quite hairy on the way back to the buses though.
