Default Seeds of the dreaded optimism are germinating

It's a terrible thing but it's the optimism that will kill you in the end. You sigh and breathe heavily when you lose and file it away as just another kind of normality. But then you sign a player, he scores 3 in 2 and actually looks decent. Then you win again, actually go top and to ice it, sign another two forwards and an experienced defender as cover. You try and contain it but it seeps out again - the dreaded optimism.

I walk into the pub. The locals call over "Hey, top of the league now!" You nod sagely, painfully aware that to say too much at this stage is to invite ridicule in a month's time. But you know that you've just spent an hour looking at the fixtures of the top seven, checking which are the six pointers and which away games you're going to find excuses to sneak off to and attend. It's like the gorge rising. It's automatic and you can't stop it no matter how much you try. 14 games to go with a possibility of two or three more if we can't win it straight off but even then you say to yourself, we can still finish second or third and that means a home match which should give us an advantage and even if we finish sixth or seventh with our away following no-one will fancy playing us. Optimism - you can't shake it.

Pep G thinks he's under pressure! Honestly, 4 competitions and an impossible quadruple is nothing compared to what we've got to go through. You look at De Bruyne, Sane and Aguero and you know they're among the best in the world so why shouldn't you expect things. But watch someone who normally can barely control a ball until a third touch or a forward who's efforts are inevitably Row G bound and then imagine that they misread the script and get it right for a change and you start thinking - oh maybe. But I dread having to listen to "I told you they were crap" from those who know no better when the optimism has finally spilt away......until next season that is.

I'm a pessimistic sort so look on being top and signing new players as a real bonus.

Also have £20 on Wrexham winning the league so another reason not to be too optimistic

Or put another way - what's the state of your buzzometer ?

Having signed Quigley, played well against Tranmere, winning at Hartlepool I was starting to buzz.

Having seen us win at Guiseley and signing Frank it's like the final pieces of the jigsaw have suddenly appeared on the table - the needle on my buzzometer has now lifted a few more notches. Can't wait to see us at full strength and each weekend can't come around quick enough now. it's bloody great to be a Wrexham supporter again !

All hail Sir Dean !

It's exciting and agonising for us at the same time. I get the feeling Keates will have the players all fairly grounded though. Concentration is key during a title run in. Need to not get too overexcited at hitting top of the league and at the same time, not get too despondent if/when we lose a game. Keep a cool head (collectively) and we can do this.

It feels like the long distance race a League is supposed to be.

We’ve spent 6 months jostling for position ready for the final push.

We’re as well equipped as anyone to do it. These three January signings could be the lift the squad needs. It’s fair to say the existing squad have got us to this position however, we’ve been screaming out for additional quality in the final third.

Finally, I hope we can keep it together because it’s going to be a roller coaster ride.

14 more games to play, each one a cliff hanger. I hope it's not too much of a roller coaster.
