Barrow, Woking, Halifax, Ebbsfleet, Aldershot, Orient, Boreham Wood, Fylde, Bromley, Maidstone, Guiseley, Solihull, Sutton, Torquay and Tranmere would all be left with 1 fewer game this season than us if Hartlepool went under today and therefore obviously 1 game less in which to pick up more points.

I think winding up is the least likely option with two other options: the fans and interested parties could come up with another £50k to get to end of season, and hope to avoid relegation, or they could go into administration before the 21st and take a 10 point deduction this season.

Another possibility is to get a delay on the date of the hearing and go into admin after 5pm on the 4th Thursday of March (22nd March) and take the 10 point deduction next season. It would not surprise me if HMRC deliberately set the date as 21st!

Administration is the most likely option but do they have any assets?
I don’t think they own their own ground.

"Police are to investigate allegations of financial irregularities at National League club Hartlepool United.

In a statement, Pools said the police responded "to a request by the club" and no-one currently involved with them is the subject of investigation.
Meanwhile, HMRC have issued a fourth winding-up petition against Hartlepool in 18 months over an unpaid tax bill.

"The club has been in contact with HMRC and have confirmed the liability due will be settled in full," they added.
The funds to repay the debt were donated by supporters in response to the club's financial issues last month."

Club have just issued a statement saying that the liability will be settled in full on Thursday direct from the Just Giving Fund set up.... good news hopefully...
