True.. after the game I drove to Llandudno to meet up with my darling girlfriend. " It's only a game" were the last words she ever said to me.

Having gone two nil down in that game it looked like it was all over on that night until we went for all out attack. Having got back to parity we then tried to shut up shop again and see the game out. Big mistake as we then conceded again. I'm sure if we had continued attacking we would have won as we had Palace on the ropes and there for the taking.

Although I knew at the end of that game that we had another chance against Mansfield I felt far more gutted at that point in time than after the play off final defeat at Wembley. Maybe it's because there wasn't the same rollercoaster of emotion in the Wembley game or perhaps I'm so much older now that I can take disappointments better in my stride. Hopefully we won't be disappointed this season. Glass half full maybe.
The Mansfield game i think was my first wrexham game,my dad took me behind the goal(tech end) as he thought the kop was a bit to busy for a 9 year old,was the tech end then used just for away fans or not.

I still feel that if Wrexham had been promoted the club would have had a more secure future in the 2nd Div than they did.

...and Les Cartwright ... all recommended by a certain Bill Shankly.

Yes we only needed 1 point from the last two games, but having lost to Palace 2:4, we then had an inferior goal-difference, so had to win the last game against Mansfield.
I remember their keeper making a poor clearance, which dropped straight to Billy Ashcroft.
He could have put it anywhere, but the ball bounced off his knee, back into the keepers hands.

The Crystal Palace match was the worst moment in football I have ever experienced.
