Default 4-3-3

Yesterday got me thinking, with the improved strike force at the club do we think a 4-3-3 system would work better than our current formation? Now I know Kearns is pretty stuck in his ways and won’t change but what does everyone think? We had some success with it a few years ago. Something along the lines of..

—————————-Dunn————-

——Roberts—manny—pearon—Jennings

——-Wright——-wedgbury——Kelly———

—-Ainge—————Quigley———-Holroyd——-

That to me looks decent, change Rutherford maybe for Ainge

It's not a bad option. I would play Ainge down the middle with the other 2 either side simply as they are more mobile to work the channels. Would Rutherford maybe replace Kelly?

Did you see Ainge? He’s not someone who can play wide right. He’s a bull of a striker who I reckon will be there for nuisance value.

Yup.

We got to the top by being boring and solid. We're dropping as we're boring and leaky. Our new midfielders are taking us backwards which is very disappointing.

The thing is with wedge hes great at breaking up play but his distribution is most of the time awful. I think this is why we are struggling to string passes together. Wright is a similar player and we would struggle playing them both trying to get goals. It showed on Tuesday when he started them both, we were garbage. Roberts hoofs it wedge hoofs it and so does most of the back 4. We are solid but not very creative witch just invites pressure. I don't think we will have a league winning team until these players are bettered

Absolutely agree and have said it for a while.

4-3-3 or variants (4-2-1-3, 4-1-2-3, 4-2-3-1) would get more out our players without a doubt, in my opinion.

However formations like the above need plenty of work done on them, it needs to be engrained and worked upon meticulously for a while.

Ship has probably sailed and Keates is also too stubborn to change

4-4-2 works when you have 2 good wingers; we don’t. If they were all fit I would start with:

——————————Dunn

Carrington——-Smith——-Pearson———Raven

———Wright———Wedgbury———-Rutherford

———Holroyd———-Ainge———-Quigley
