Re: Hard to beat, harder to win - penalties
I don't get why people still seem happy with how we are doing. ok, I get that we are in sixth place and in the playoffs...that's great, much more than I expected to be honest.
But we are drawing far too many games and the time will come when that won't be enough to keep us in the play offs. I will praise Keates and admit we have done very well this season but it could (and should) have been so much better. The points we have dropped late on in games due to poor concentration or game management is going to cost us. Out of 18 home games, we have drawn half...9 home games drawn!! We need to be picking up more points at home if we are serious of realising our play off aspirations. I am frankly amazed that we have drawn so many games and yet sit in the playoffs. It just shows how tight the league is and how infuriating our inability to kill off games has been. |

Re: Hard to beat, harder to win - penalties
I can’t argue with the statistics. They are impressive. But why is the average fan so down at present? Whilst walking out of the “stadium” at Solihull, you would think that we had been soundly beaten. Could it be that an average Wrexham match is like a war of attrition ?
A sad thing to say, but I would sacrifice 5 or 6 of our points haul, in order for us to play in a more attacking, cavalier way. In the 60s and 70s we picked up the responsibilities of the home team and tried to roast the opponents. Going to the Racecourse now, is marginally more attractive than a trip to the dentists! |

Re: Hard to beat, harder to win - penalties
I would put it into the following perspective for the average fan .
Happy with league position i.e. in the play offs. Yes everyone would prefer we were top and now had a gap but realistically speaking being in the play offs is what our target is. Not so happy with the style of play and the fact that we struggle to close out games against the teams in the lower and even relegation places in the league. This includes lack of goals, sitting back in the hope of a 1-0 etc. Therefore coming out of the Solihull game after a 0-0 draw with no shots on target and 2 dropped points at a time when we needed to keep in touch with Maccy probably felt like a defeat. Its also a bit like signing players where some fans wanted early recruitment and some were happy to wait until the later days. Now it seems the new signings need time to gel which they would have done if signed earlier. |
