To be honest the club probably was open about it when asked. If they refused they'd just phone his agent up anyway who'd give them the answer.

Or all Walsall would have to do is keep offering slightly more every time until the reach the point where we have to say yes.
Thought Keates would not deal with Agents?

Default Re: Dean Keates speaks out

A couple of the names listed in this article made me laugh.
"League One side Walsall have appointed highly-rated young manager Dean Keates from non-league Wrexham. Here are 5 players who he could sign for them in the summer-

Chris Holroyd- The experienced striker was Keates’ top scorer at Wrexham this season with 13 goals so far. He has played in the Football League before for Brighton and Hove Albion, Rotherham United, Preston North End and Morecambe. He could be an option for Walsall in the summer.

Scott Quigley- Keates signed the 25 year-old striker on loan for Wrexham in January from Walsall’s League One rivals Blackpool. He has been in fine form for Wrexham in the National League so far and has scored 7 goals in 8 games. He was prolific in his five year stints with The New Saints in Wales but his move to Blackpool did not work out. Maybe Keates will give him a second chance in League One.

Chris Dunn- The experienced goalkeeper was brought to Wrexham by Keates and made their number one. His contract there is set to expire in the summer and Keates could potentially be tempted to sign him for Walsall as back-up and to put pressure on their first two choices.

Oliver Shenton- The 20 year-old midfielder plays for Premier League side Stoke City but Keates knows him well from having him on loan at Wrexham last season. He is certainly an option for him for next season. The youngster is highly rated by Stoke and they may be keen for him to get some more experience.

Ntumba Massanka- Keates brought the 21 year-old striker to Wrexham twice on loan from Burnley. Massanka has also had loan stints at York City and Morecambe. Could Keates give him the opportunity of a loan spell in League One next season at Walsall"

Keates' agent is Darren Wrack, who also played for Walsall at one time. He started working at the agency in November 2017, Walsall got a huge tip off about the release clause then.

Its shit, the timing couldn't be much worse but suck it up and get over it.

The next manager now has less of a job than Keates did so in theory if the right man is appointed he should be able to at least keep us in the play offs even if the football doesn't improve this season.

Who knows some of the flops may even start playing and perform for a new manager.

Be very interesting to see who the board appoint... I still have no idea but the Bellamy suggestion has grown on me a little bit. Not saying I want him to get the job but he'd be putting his career on the line and would need to get it right. The negative is manager wise he's a complete unknown and i'm not sure he could unite a squad and keep it that way. He ain't shy in speaking out.
Good post.

Hence, they offered up the money straight away ?

So why the negativity to the board? They were/are contractually bound.

I find Bellamy to be a likeable character when I see him on Sky; the opposite as a player.

I’d see his appointment as similar to Saunders.

Why the need for the clause? One for if things get bad, not when things are going well, I doubt Askey will have one, suggests it was low too, Walsall are on record that they'd only employee those out of contract and according to the majority of their fan base are skint. Also those in charge at Walsall said they wouldn't be rushed into an appointment all of 3 days previous, again it suggests a deal they couldn't afford to miss out on. Smells like the Mills deal for us...

If he left with no such clause I wouldn't be anywhere near as bothered, he deserves the opportunity anyway.

It'll all come out soon enough.

The thing is if Bellamy was chosen to be manager, who knows if he has even applied, his ideas would go through the existing management team. Hence, they would filter good or bad ideas through. He would certainly attract the players we need for promotion next year and keep the ones we want to keep for next year. A real shot in the arm off the pitch. A real winner who I think the players would like to work for and give him respect. Will he apply? Will we approach him??

Every manager and player has these clauses even Messi.

I think we all know what certain people tell the press is bollox, when behind the the scenes, Walsall only had one person in mind. The dreaded manager vote of confidence tells us that. I read it somewhere today their chairman was quoted....'We only wanted Dean' or words to that effect
