Re: new face for saturday

It would make sense to keep Davies and Darlington running things for the remainder of the season, ensuring that there is stability at the club. However, this stability is "obviously" tenuous as the players and staff are aware that there is an ongoing search for a manager. All of whom will be unsure of their futures;even those who have signed extensions.

On the plus side by making it clear they will give Andy and Carl control until the summer buys the board time to conduct the recruitment process. It also gives Andy Davies the opportunity to demonstrate his credentials should he be interested in the role.

If a new manager is brought in I would expect the replacement to be selected and given a watching brief before the start of May. Allowing them time to assess the squad and staff in preparation for the annual churn of playing staff at the end of the season. The new manager will need to be involved in the recruitment and retention of the backroom staff as well. They may have staff they want to bring with them. There will also, no doubt, be a number that DK will try and poach if Walsall have given him permission to bring in his own staff. Which Spencer Harris seems to be prepared for:
"Not just Andy and Carl, we see other members of our staff as very important to the future of Wrexham Football Club...All being well, our intention is that nobody else goes anywhere".

Let's hope we get this right and whatever league we are in next season we have someone who can motivate and inspire the players, staff and fans.

We have half a team already signed up so don't understand your concern if we are still in this division.

As with any change in management their are always players that fitted the previous regime that do not fit the new managers' ethos. The new broom sweeps clean. There will also be players that may decide that they do not want to play for the manager. A turnover of players with a new manager is the likely outcome. There are a core that we would hope to keep but contracted or not there is no guarantees.

Me too, I haven't been since the Dover home game before Christmas for various reasons.

that game was terrible, so I have high hopes for this one!

Its the other half I am concerned about as I am not sure the present stand in management have the contacts or skills to recruit the right players .

Pedantic I know

Extract from the article
Davies would not be drawn on whether he and Darlington will remain in charge until holding talks with the board.

This is a worry of mine. We have a fair few players signed up for next season (rightly so in each case). However a manager coming in may not see the merit in this or be willing to let players go because they don't fit in with his vision.

If I was coming in I wouldn't want to break up the backline that we have but as we have seen in the past managers will do that to a squad.

The first article you have pasted is more recent so an update from the second link; which came earlier. Reading the article the thing that stood out is the odds for Andy Davies. With the short odds and suggested quick turnaround it appears Andy is the likey successor to Keates.

Played for us as a school boy and youth. Got injured I think, was released and played around the welsh leagues. Think he played for Druids.

Has coached the kids for a while and ran the academy. Obviously stepped up to assist Keates when he was appointed.

Is the correct answer. We cannot recruit until we know what division we’ll be in. Go up and we can look at big names.

You would think with the interest being shown they would be creating shortlists for both Conference and League 2 managers and would act shortly after we gain promotion.

Bit like when Keates took over you mean?

We can go with what we have until the end of the season. Transfer window is closed so no need to worry about ability to bring new players in.
As has been said, let's see where we are for next season first. That is at the moment the most sensible option.

Keates has been a well respected footballer throughout the leagues and would of gained numerous contacts through ex managers/players who are now managers and coaches through all levels where as Andy Davies has been a local youth coach

But appointing someone now won’t changed anything, in Darlington alone we will have a stronger technical mind towards coaching and probably one of the highest qualified coaches in this league. I don’t see a valid reason to change anything currently as it could go either way but if we stay as we are we will be in the play offs.

Unlikely to leave Cardiff were he has full time employment for an 8 week stint up here.

He knocked Oxford back because he did not want to mess Cardiff about.

Amazing that after what we've seen that people still think it's about a bulging CV and contacts book. If anything the tide is turning towards good coaching and fresh ideas and our recent experiences should make that a no brainer. I'm open minded whoever gets it as long as that person doesn't think they can rip up what has been done in the last 18 months and there's no point flattening anyone who might know their onions.

Successful at this level; Morrell, Saunders, Keates.

Not successful (for us) at this level; Mills, Wilkin, Little.

There’s a pattern!
