Default Sutton Uniteds promotion push - pitch update

As previously mentioned on here, there were potential issue with Sutton United gaining successful application to the EFL given that they currently play on a 3G pitch

seeing as the promotion race is wide open, it appears that Sutton United have found a compromise to their application if they get promoted this year, as per the following article

Doswell urges fans to help Sutton United reach EFL | Sutton Guardian

Quote:
“We were clearly hoping that we could retain the 3G. However with no vote planned, option B is in place.

“Our biggest dilemma is losing our community model which we all fiercely believe in.

“The solution is; Having been advised by industry experts if we get promoted, we will install a hybrid grass pitch in the main stadium. This will allow 25/30 hours of use per week.

“We are also looking to install the same pitch in Collingwood Rec which combined would give us circa 55 hours use per week the same as we currently have from the 3G.”
so it looks like they are finally willing to fork out a large outlay, if it means they can play in the EFL. so it is still an 8 horse race not a 7

If they won promotion but were barred from the efl then the team 2nd bottom would escape relegation. An extra team wouldn't go up in there place.

Is it just 3g pitches that are banned in the Football League? Could they not pull up their 3g pitch and just play on bare soil instead? Is there a rule that says it has to be grass?

That won't be cheap.

I'd love a hybrid pitch at the Racecourse.

I think it was the end of the season 1961 ish and The Racecourse was bare soil, Pitch clobbered by the snow and ice followed by scorching sun. Seem to remember one game where it was like a dust storm.

Didn’t Chelsea play on compact sand at Stamford Bridge a while back, or am I confusing it with childhood times at Black Rock?

If they won promotion, but were not accepted into the EFL due to their 3G pitch, they would be relegated to the Conference South.
So I think the team 4th bottom of the National league would also escape relegation.

Newport's hybrid pitch and drainage work cost £750,000. Paid for by landlords W.R.U.
