Default Stadium Redevelopment Funding

Everton are having a new stadium paid for by a loan from the council who will loan the money from the government.

Would our Council be able to do this?
Would they want to do it?

“The deal with Everton is that we will borrow from the Public Sector Works Loan Board, a government fund which we can tap into, and the repayments of that are at a very low rate, we can then offer a loan to Everton at a lower rate than they get from the banks.

“They will then pay the loan, the full loan, back to central government via us, via the city but they will pay it back."

A loan for a stand that we wouldn't fill or need? No thanks.

How the Swansea stadium was put together is an interesting slant on this

BBC NEWS | Wales | South West Wales | Morfa Stadium gets go-ahead

I'm not saying a new stadium but its how the council worked to create something that generated jobs, visitors and long term income.

Your seeing things exactly like the council would. They see any development at the Racecourse as something only to be used once a fortnight for the benefit of those who support the football club.

A more imaginative council would see it as a possibility to get access to cheap funding to develop a civic amenity that could maybe create jobs and a regular income and that could be used seven days a week; including once a fortnight by those who support the football club.

We can't even get a new stand never mind a new stadium. I don't think I'd want to move because there's always that special feeling you get walking up the steps and seing the stadium, and so much history here to. I'd just like the kip end to be developed. Seating if possible but if we could get away with an all standing stand then that would bring back the good old days.

Plenty of people have slept through some of our home 0-0's this season

The cost to build Sunderland and Bolton's stadium is estimated to be £1000 per seat.

Given that an modest 2000 seat KOP would be in the range of 2 Million.

A loan of 25 years would be £80K per year.

This could be paid for by simply added it to the cost of the ticket. (80 000 / 23 (games) / 3900 supporters) = 89p

This is a simple idea I know and does not take into account interest payment and real world variables. But its just an idea, the KOP has been idle to long.

Obtaining the land is going to be expensive and difficult never mind building the stand. More realistic figure will be double that plus probably more.
