We've won 17 games this season. 15 of them have been with a clean sheet. In other words. ....god help us if we concede !

Tend to agree with this.

Unfortunately this lack of a winning & ruthless mentality has permeated itself throughout the squad.

Pearson is a warrior, a leader and a winner - but we need 3, 4 maybe 5 others of the same ilk.

My hope is that a new manager, working with a core group of strong players (such as Pearson, Smith and Wedgbury) and new recruits of a similar calibre, can instill a new ethos and a new winning mentality.

Time will tell...

If all the squad had his desire we'd have the bugger won by now

Would put Wedgbury in the "winning" category in terms of attitude and experience. Jennings has been there and done it too, even if he never crosses the half way line, Roberts has been in promotion chasing teams as well as Kelly.

It's no coincidence with the signings Keates made in the summer that we are in with a shout of promotion, despite drawing so many games!

To lose only 6 games out of 40 isn't a team without character, not to mention the clean sheets.

Difference between us and Macc this season. Besides losing twice to them ! Today was the 5th time they've come from behind to win. We've done it once. We have drawn a few from losing positions but not gone on to win besides Eastleigh at home. That's pretty much the 10 point gap.

Fair summary that, but I think the character you refer to is more of a “We’re not losing this lads so put your bodies on the line!” rather than “Let’s tear these lot up, put them to the sword and win!”

Maybe a little simplistic, but I genuinely feel that the former only gets you so far, it’s the latter that makes champions...

Takes more courage to keep looking for the ball and trying things when things are not going well than heading balls away and tackling.

Absolutely this.

I think the above can partly be attributed to a lack of mental toughness. A lack of a psychological edge that can separate you from a tough player who doesn’t lose many to a tough player who can win and doesn’t shy away from ruthlessly putting the opposition to the sword.

I think we’re on the same wavelength.

However couragous it is to fly into tackles and headers, throwing your body on the line and making sure you don’t lose; it is an altogether more important type of courage that goes looking for another goal, another move, another forward drive that won’t settle for a solitary one goal advantage.

Sadly this latter courage is what we lack I feel...
