Personnel or mentality?
Is our amount of draws this season down to the personnel we have and the chosen style of play? Or is it a mentality issue? I’m quite interested in sports psychology and my view is that the core mentality of the squad is lacking and there’s a lack of collective mental toughness and ruthlessness that seems engrained. You could argue the management should set the mentality, or does a squad’s playing ethos/culture go deeper than just the man/men at the helm? It’s a difficult one, I guess mentality, personnel etc can all be linked together. Thoughts?... |

Re: Personnel or mentality?
I think it's down to personnel but that goes hand in hand with the management's take on how to setup for games. We are structured not to concede and grind out results. The problem comes when we have to chase a game after conceding, we just don't have the attacking options to do that and the consequence is playing out numerous draws.

Re: Personnel or mentality?
And then can't score after conceding an equaliser, hence the numerous draws

Re: Personnel or mentality?
Personnel and tactics. 21 points dropped from a winning position speaks volumes. Add into that Boden being dropped when forming a good partnership with Quigley and the Masanka fiasco etc etc and we've probably blown the best chance for automatic promotion in five years.

Re: Personnel or mentality?
If Keates was still here you could argue the personnel are a reflection of the bis/our current mentality. Having said this I honestly don't think he had a clue what he was doing with regards to our attacking game, we've just lumped the ball up to midgets since August.
Have we got fullbacks who can go beyond the halfway line? Wingers who can get to the byline? Have we got that elusive creative midfielder? No we haven't, which suggests a conservative negative mentality. The football this year is on a par with the end of the Morrell era.
