Fan ownership works for some but not most. I’d have thought with the way Chester City ended, they’d have been all over it.

However, Vaughan gave them a few happy moments including promotion to the League.

Fan ownership really does need firm foundations otherwise it falls around you as chester are finding out.
Any form of effective ownership needs firm foundations . The problem with fan ownership is that you can only go as far as the number of fans you have , even with firm foundations. Chester’s falling gates (sub 2000) meant they could no longer compete in the top half of the division, they had to cut their cloth but they didn’t do it by enough, hence their current problems.

Fortunately our gates mean we can be competitive but are extremely unlikely to ever win the league. But you can see how our likely maximum gate means that it would be very difficult to compete in League 1 , and any fall off in average gates in League 2 could put us in the sort of trouble that Chester are in now. Ultimately, for all fan owned clubs, somewhere along the line it will end in tears.

Exeter aren’t doing too bad are they?

I know you’re very much anti fan ownership but you have to appreciate there aren’t that many options for a club that doesn’t own its own ground and only turns over £2.6m.

Exeter have an extraordinary manager who has just left them. If you have a one off manager such as a Warnock , it doesn’t really matter who the owner is (NB our current board’s track record on managerial team appointments is not a good one)

I am not anti fan ownership in principle. I would love it to work because ethically it’s the right thing to do.

I agree there may not be any other options, we are where we are. I still maintain though that it’s worth offering part or all of the club for sale in order to test the waters.

I am grateful that people like Spencer are willing to give there time to try and run the club as a business......If he and others left we would end up like Chester I am convinced of it, as all you get is in fighting and back stabbing, be grateful for what we have its better than the alternative.

...and that’s it really. It’s receiving dog's abuse for volunteering your time; mostly from complete and utter gob sh’tes.

There have been decisions which I haven’t agreed with over the last 5 years however, I’m simply not willing to be critical because the only time I’m willing to give this football is about 3 hours on (home) match day.

What has our management duo got to do with the ownership model? I've seen enough to know they need replacing as soon as possible.

Very true. I will criticize the board when I don't agree with them (as does any fan who cares), but I do appreciate what they do.

Ultimately it comes down to what happens on the pitch. If Chester were in the top six we wouldn't have seen this 'meltdown'. Size of Club, even support, does not seem important - ask anyone at Macclesfield.

Basically I don't care what happens to Chester although for the sake of good rivalry and banter I'd have preferred them to stay in this division. What is painfully obvious is that being in a division with Stockport County, York City, Southport etc as well as new emerging and well backed Clubs, there is no easy way out of it.

I think it will be a very long time before we next see Chester in a league game at the Racecourse.
