Ingle through on goal and hit it straight at Stepney. Lost 2 nil, played well though, particularly, Mickey Evans.

Disallowed goal by Eddie May that would have made it 1 - 1, Wrexham had a standing ovation at full time

I went to Anderlecht in Mar 1976. Mickey did similar to Robbie Rensenbrink. I met him in Magalluf with his wife Morrell in 1977? Really nice guy.

I was living in Manchester at the time and saw many of United's games, as well as City's ,who had a very good team at the time.
I remember with great excitement the support and atmosphere on the night. Compared to other teams I had seen we were obviously a division or so behind but in terms of passion and effort we were second to none.
Best was one of the greatest players I have ever seen but I doubt anyone ever gave him such a difficult night as Mickey - a truly great performance in a Wrexham shirt.

Great to read all these comments from people who were there on the night. The fact that a player's performance against one of the all-time greats is so well remembered 50 years later speaks for itself. What a smashing chap as well.

I can recall Stepney made a great save from a Ray Smith header at the Stretford end.

Believe Evans like Gareth Davis was one of the great unsung heros during the 70's, they both got on with their jobs whilst others got glory.

Though he signed from Wolves in 66, seemed to take a few seasons to fully establish himself.

Best still had it when he played in Gareth's testimonial.
