I even remember some older fans saying we will never have enough money to get quality players in to go back up & as time goes on these stay away fans keep saying I told you so.

I take your point but if something was bothering you that much, surely you would 'E' Mail a question to be asked or get someone to ask for you.

We all hear negative comments, not giving to BTB because they think the money could be stolen is a lame excuse. If they were that interested in BTB they could donate direct.

We will be unlikely to afford the quality players with attitudes like the ones you allude to. Thankfully we can ignore such comments and become more determined to prove the doubters wrong.

Firstly I took a snapshot of the league when we where top to send to a friend as I doubted we would finish this way at the end of the season.

RE: trust and finance, I know we are safer than a lot of other clubs, no debt, even have money in the bank, but have to agree we are now all sick of this Sh1t division and sadly its only a larger investment with a decent wise manager that's going to get us put. Bucket collections, raffles, will not help.

The board need a good hard luck at how we do this and create significant income

Q.R I'm not in any disagreement with your reply and if I was bothered that much I would attend or send an email, my post was just pointing out different people have different views and comments and the ones I've alluded to are old fans who mainly use it as an excuse for no longer going.

Some valid points there re availability of people who are able to attend such meetings.
The flip side is, your argument clearly shows what a commitment is required to be on the board.
I have no issues with people making valid points re the Board but those people who shout that the Board be dismissed or replaced should step up to the plate then.
Or, at least make their case face to face or via e-mail and not hide under anonymity on a forum.

I hope thats last bit isn't aimed at me as I've never ever criticised the board.

No doubt I will be shot down in flames for this, but here goes.

I am confident the Board has the best interests of WAFC at heart. However, inevitably they are the best interests as they perceive them – i.e. that, as the club is in fans’ hands, and as the fans’ elected representatives, they are the best people to take it forward.

This is where, in my humble opinion, the model falls down. In the Board’s position, it’s incredibly difficult to be objective. Whilst they undoubtedly put a lot of effort and untold hours into running the club and have to make difficult decisions all for no financial reward, they nonetheless do get rewarded in other, less tangible ways – they must do, otherwise they wouldn’t do it.

Their reward comes in the opportunity to help the club they support, the occupation of a position afforded to few fans, the kudos, the seat in the Directors’ Boxes home and away etc, all shared with fellow fans with whom they build relationships and in some cases friendships. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not complaining, they need a return on the time invested in running the club.

My point is, once you’ve reached that position, it would prove very difficult to give it up and become just another fan. Some will do so, but only if forced to by family circumstances, lack of time, change of job etc. I contend that few would choose to do so otherwise.

…and there’s the conundrum. It’s not in their interests to change things, or consider alternative approaches – the ownership model, the make-up of the Board, unless it’s forced upon them by external circumstances. From that point of view, riding high in the Conference, particularly if an improvement on previous seasons, suits.

Again, don’t misunderstand, I’m not claiming this is in any way deliberate; it’s very difficult to admit that others could do a better job than you are, particularly if you’re devoting every spare hour to the cause and desperately want the club to be successful. Unfortunately, working hard and long is not enough. A board of directors of any company needs to recognise if it has gaps in its collective skillset, identify the gaps and remedy them.

I don’t pretend to have the answer.

A well thought out post. - Don't think anyone will be firing incendiary devices. But to clarify.
The members of the football club board are appointed by the trust board because of their skill set and ability to contribute.
A position of weakness was identified and filled with Phil Salmon coming on board. (He is an unelected board member) The board can make additional appointments if required. However the trust has to have a majority on the board.
From what I know of the board members appointed by the trust, there is no one there who revels in the glory of the position. Whilst they do get to sit in the Directors box, It's rare that more than two "Directors" take the opportunity at away games and even then they are bound to contribute their match fee to the trust.
It is not unusual to find these directors amongst the supporters.
