They say there is no loyalty in football and Keates' departure would seem to back that up. He left, however, courtesy of a contract clause which allowed him to walk out at a day's notice. Was told recently that the Board were " delighted with the compensation from Walsall". Wonder how delighted they'll be if we fail to make the playoffs let alone fail to regain our FL status?

I thought our experienced players would have carried us through to the playoffs, but they for some reason have lost the never say die attitude. They, like the club and fans bought into Keates 3 year plan. We weren’t playing attractive football, but many felt if we didn’t make it this year, then we would improve next year, we seemed to have a forward plan.

Now I’m not sure what plan we have, a new manager to come in, not having seen the current team play a competitive game. Time will tell, but at the moment feeling a bit disillusioned about the future, it feels like we will never get back to the FL.
Hellfire I just have to comment on this, Keates “can not” thats right CAN NOT be blamed for everything that has gone wrong here.
1. The “Board” allowed Keates a get out clause no one else do you think Keates if he hadn't had this clause would not have taken his first Managerial role. Not on your Bloody life he wouldn't so it was their collective Naivety.
2. The “Board”didn't replace the Manager straightaway in our most crucial run in for many many years.
So before everything is levelled at Keates look at our inability to be Ballsy at Boardroom level. I know they have steadied the ship but their football Naivety is now becoming a huge liability. I dont have the answers God knows I dont but I do think we are in deep do do

I hear what you say, but the board was also onboard with the Keates plan, and with only 8 games to go it left little time to do anything.

Of course we will never know what would have happened if Keates had stayed, but I believe we would have made the playoffs, promotion would have been more of a challenge

Still all to play for - win our next two games and no matter what others do we will be in the play offs.

Perhaps on current form unlikely but it aint just over yet.

not quite, Ebbs Dover and Bromley can all take us with games in hand, not in our hands just yet but I think 6 points would be enough

And without that clause Keates could simply have resigned and gone to Walsall anyway. That would then triggered a "tapping-up" charge against Walsall and a fight for compensation. We could also have refused permisssion to speak to him and he could still have walked away.

Just saying like, if Keates had made a cats arse of it I'm sure the the escape clause would have worked in our favour.

Lots of grumbling around walking out the ground not surprisingly, of the usual that's my lot we don't want to go up, can't afford to go up, the board haven't a clue (without the swear words) I'm not wasting more money on a season ticket etc etc. I actually thought at least we tried to win today, it's the defence and the keeper that's letting us down and strikers who are to slow, Quigley looks Welsh league at best.
