Default Seeds of the dreaded optimism have died

In Feb I started a thread "Seeds of the dreaded optimism are germinating". We were top, Quigley had arrived on loan and looked like a proper striker and though the football wasn't pretty we looked fixed for a top three place at the very least. My concern then was that my optimism could only be shattered. It has. I've tossed aside my lucky hat and shirts, I've tried different turnstiles. I've had enough of standing on one leg. So to finally exorcise the curse of my previous thread I'm declaring that all my hope has gone and that pessimism has rightly re-surfaced in my perception and attitude to supporting WFC. By expecting the worst I can only reap satisfaction - until next season.

Its a strange felling isn't it when reality finally kicks in?
I find it quite amusing that some fans are that optimistic without having any real substance for it other than its blind optimism.

Looking back on the season will the WAFC board actually look at any lessons learnt - very doubtful, which is sad really as this is where the same old mistakes can be avoided.

DK was allowed to continue far too long without a real goal scoring threat, he was allowed a chase a player that we never had a hope of signing and there were no alternative options in the pipeline. Surely after everything this club has been through then putting all our eggs into 1 basket was something that should have sent alarm bells ringing around the board members. But NO.

Likewise the CM problem and then to cap it all we allow him to make a panic 2 1/2 year deal to sign a player that has since hardly featured.

You really couldn't make this stuff up.

Went to Guiseley and after the 0 - 2 win actually felt top of the world - went to Sutton and got a good point with Boden looking good and setting up Quigley for the goal - Wedgbury was immense that day putting his body on the line at every opportunity - things were looking rosy but how quickly the optimism has faded now.

Only possible consolation is that the potato I have christened 'Walsall' with every twist of the pointed stick drops into the bottom 4 and Judas Keates feels some real pain.
What is a season ticket if the manager buggers off part way through ?

I feel some considerable damage has been done in a short space of time - ST sales next season, build the budget and the sale of Village bakery mince pies over xmas will drop off - unless we make an inspirational appointment for our next manager - we are at a crucial time with players contracts close to completion - we need to act fast or it could get worse and we could lose the few quality players we already have - no player will want to be aboard a rudderless ship heading nowhere !

I think that applies to you as you could have debated my points rather than trying to be a smart arse and actually being patronising in a post where you accuse me of it.
Oh how ironic, you need to get over yourself if you cant see that questions of the board must be asked.

Sadly you are spot on again with how things have panned out . It became pretty clear for me last Summer when we had the endless and eventually fruitless quest for the star striker that things were not going to end well.
And of course once i saw the reds play it became very clear where we needed strengthening. I remember writing on here after seeing them win at Maidenhead about the MF lack of width and the need for a striker .

Whether the Board will learn is debatable I argued after the débâcle Of Millsgate that the board should bring independent football people in to advise them about the way forward . I still think its a good idea but i dont think it will happen
