Re: How much more humiliation can we take
RP likes to see the post-match players' ratings. They are all a matter of opinion - understandably.
Every time we acquire a new player, we want him to turn in an 8, 9, or a 10 in the next ratings thread, and if he doesn't, he's quickly labelled as another failure. It occurs to me that DK (and others before him) brought many players in to do specific jobs - not to be world beaters, as those would be out of our league, literally! After watching Wrexham all my life until I emigrated, I have to say that very few players I see in the highlights would rate more than a 4 or a 5 if measured against those seen in past years, and yet many fans expect so much more. Yes, we've been in this infernal league for 10 years, which is the longest of the current clubs. While that obviously means we haven't been promoted back to L2, it also means that we haven't suffered either by being relegated to a still-lower league, as have Chester, Northwich, Stockport, Kidderminster, York, Boston, Darlington, Southport, and Telford, as just a few examples. My expectations of watching us play League football again in the future are not diminished, but there's no guarantee that ANY manager, ANY budget, ANY player(s) will take us there, as there are another 23 clubs sharing that expectation with only two teams escaping upwards each year. Finding the right combination of manager, coaches, budget, goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers that can compete CONSISTENTLY against the combinations in place at every other club, in matches where referees, linesmen, and fourth officials ALL need lessons in applying the rules correctly, fairly, impartially, and consistently is a lottery. Combine this with other clubs who target successful managers and players for their own teams, and the result is inevitably a lottery - particularly when 50% of the clubs who have been promoted do so not based on a season-long consistency, but on the footballing equivalent of a casino where one spin of the dice may favour the least successful of the season's play-off participants, as has happened several times. The second-placed team has only won once that I can recall (Carlisle 2004/5) since 2 promotion places were granted in 2002/3! We've seen the front-runners beating each other throughout the season. No one team had been truly dominant from start to finish. THAT was the real reason why we were leading the league just 12 matches ago, and sitting in 3rd place 4 games ago. We still have a faint chance of a play off place IF we gain maximum points out of our remaining two games AND those around us drop points as well. There ARE no guarantees in this game, and the fans of 22 clubs are going to be disappointed (if not livid!) EVERY season. Last edited by The Only Way Is Up; 18th April 2018 at 06.30:40.. |

People then couldn’t believe (when things started going tits up), the things he and his assistant had been allowed to do (or more accurately, not do), like installing a table tennis table at the training ground, not scouting other teams, turning up twice a week, going down the boozer etc etc etc. So let’s make sure they do that again, and give the new man the same free reign. |

Re: How much more humiliation can we take
It looks like the magic figure for the play offs will be 74/75. Or 2 wins for us. So if we don't do this we would have fallen short by a handful of points. The question will then be how did that happen?. For me the answer is simple. DK leaving and the Incompetent board replacing him with AD. In my view some board members should resign as when previous bad decisions have been made ie Millsgate board members did the honourable thing.

Come on now they will easily manage 1250. Some folk on here are acting like last night was the end of the world. I bet most of them didn't live through the days when we were consistently near the bottom of the football league. That was reason for despondancy. Tomorrow is always another day---and the day after.
