I agree. For me it all went wrong when Keates was enrolled as manager. Granted he improved the squad when he rebuilt from the fiasco of the orange wonder, but that in-itself is hardly cause for celebration, as he couldn't have done much worse than Mills. The league has been very poor this season, and as you say, the style of play has been horrendous all season. It was plain to see that despite our league position, we were never really going to be promotion contenders at the end of the season.
If we used the same players and tactics next season, then I could well imagine that we would end up with a much lower league position and possibly a relegation battle.
Yet a new messiah will soon be announced and Keates will soon be forgotten, but I for one will not be sad that the anti-football of this season is now finished, and a new chapter will soon commence.

It's irrelevant now as it is history and all beyond anyone's control, we just need to move on but I disagree. We didnt kick on after January but bringing in Quiggley, Deverdics, Franks and Raven (all with decent reputations) to bolster the sqyad should have oushed us on. We were extremeley well placed though when Keates left and we may have finally kicked on but eitger way we would have walked into the play offs but for whatever reason the wheels cam off.

I had this feeling at todays match

The fans and volunteers being the constant

very disappointed, poor football all year with no reward at the end of it.

Very poor recruitment in January cost us

Not making the play offs must have cost us as much as we raised in build the budget.

So what you're saying is that he improved the squad, rebuilding it from a fiasco, but now these players, without him, but playing the same tactics as Keates we would end up much lower in the league.

So improved the squad, and without him, they don't perform, sounds like quite a motivator. Doesn't sound like a disaster to me.

We'll obviously never know now, but I do genuinely believe that this pre-season would have led to Keates improving the midfield and attack. I hope that as the defence is on long-term contracts this will still be the case with the new manager, and what good steps that have been taken so far aren't just swept away.

The opening 2 homes Macclesfield and Gateshead set our season up half decent in defence, over ran in midfield most weeks and a terrible strike force.

Agree with this but if as suggested the new manager is willing to keep AD & AC then little will change I don't think Davies is even good enough to coach them.
