Where IS the trust working?

The books are balanced.

If we were a restaurant, the food would be terrible, but our accounts would be filed on time.

Its clearly worked off the field in stabilizing the finances and securing the lease but

The 1st team is stagnant
The academy is unrecognizable from the one they inherited, the fans won't necessarily see it but its regressed massively on every level
There is no reserves
The youth team is producing little or nothing and now new intake have the fund themselves.

So from a football perspective the foundations which were so strong for sporting excellence with a little honing and strategy are now weak to the point where it will take years of care, investment and management to get them back to any sort of level that they were at before.

This is the biggest failing of Trust ownership, and its not down to money, its down to lack of strategy, focus, attention and care. They let people get away with below average performance in the jobs they were trusted with.

Superb post.

Not much point in arguing these points as they are painfully true.

Interesting perspective, BV.

The WST and Wrexham AFC Boards are doing well with off-field issues, which is necessary but not sufficient. Football wise we have stagnated at best, but more likely worsened across the piste.

There seems to be no policy, strategy or drive to establish what we would ideally want, what we need, and what we can afford. No youth player has come through the ranks at Wrexham for too long. They have either been sold early, failed to develop or simply been overlooked.

Once the new manager is in place, the Board must make it clear what their objectives are, and the new man must state how he intends to make it happen. We all get focused on promotion - which is what we all want - but without the supporting infrastructure or a massive dose of luck, success will be difficult to achieve.

It the finance that dictate though.

As Tranmere have now done the same....you simply can't do it in non league.

Without a significant injection of funds, the youth set up will continue to be, for want of a better word, neglected

What should they be doing Bagger? Specifically not broadly?

The trouble with the system at present is that until Scholar age players just leave with no compo. As stated Tranmere and others have taken the frankly obvious step. The priority is to get promoted, when a first team player that can make a difference comes transfer fee free (just wages) and a youth player who breaks through and plays first team (if hasnt been poached already) who could make a difference say after one season becomes wanted by everyone and leaves the argument for an academy or CofE is diminished.

As for reserve fixtures they were effectively friendlies so not that useful.

I think this is something that football as a whole needs to look at. Unless you are a Prem or top of the Champ club the chances of keeping good players are pretty slim. If City bring through one Phil Foden every three years they will have gained a £50m asset, and justified their set up, two and they are well in the black. If we bring through a first team regular he is likely on a short contract but worth say max £50k if hes brilliant at our level.

Tranmere strategy is have no youth then wait till 16 when prem teams release players and see what they can get. Along side this they are looking at strengthening ties with Grass Root teams.

Its a rock and a hard place.
