He also hit the nail on the head where he said he was here for the Tranmere game a few weeks ago. People were talking about the play offs. That's not the mentality to have. The mentality is, automatic promotion. Nothing less.

Agreed, only 39 goals conceded says the defence is ok, our defensive midfield outlook would have contributed to that low number, however it’s definitely the creative and attacking midfield we need along with strikers who know where the net is.

We always seem to appear lacking in size - plenty of small lightweights in the middle and upfront - the Kelly, Rutherford - Deverdics looks weak as a kitten.
When we played Solihull away I was impressed with a fair few of their team - a considerable number of athletic powerhouses with height advantage.
To be honest if it were offered I would take Mark Yates and half his team tomorrow - and fill in the gaps with Pearson, Wedgbury and Holroyd - the rest wouldn't be missed.
Big problem is we are accepting average mediocre who have a track record of not doing much out of the ordinary - nobody from midfield ever has a shot, takes a decent free kick or does something special - when was the last time a Wrexham player took anyone on down the flanks ? we are all to predictable and slow in moving the ball forward in the last third.
In fact Arsenal reminded me how we play in their cup tie v Athletico Madrid - looked good and kept possession for long periods but no cutting edge - that also ended in another 1 - 1 draw.

Someone who knows this league ? Mark Yates ?

Don't be silly let's take a massive risk on an under 16s coach,, at least he's welsh

Thierry Henry went from working part-time with the Arsenal under 18s to being Belgium's assistant manager. Mourinho started out as an interpreter!

Wouldn't it be a risk to name Mark Yates, seeming as he hasn't actually ever won anything, and was sacked from both Cheltenham and Crawley (he actually finished 20th in the 2nd division with Crawley)

I'm not saying he WOULD be rubbish, but he is no less of a risk. Which Yates would we get, Crawley or Solihull?

I would look at the 8 we have and decide what we can do with them, aound them or without them.

So 1st issue for me is Pearson and Manny with a 1 year extension which then gives us another 2 year bit of stability.

Then look at the GK position and can we really carry on with a part time player, so again we should look at a 2 year option for stability in this position.

Then address the 2 problems that Keates just refused to acknowledge - CM and CF. Then look at Wedgbury, Wright, Deverdics, Smith and decide if they really are worth keeping or do they go on the transfer list.

Then look at Holroyd, Carrington, Raven and possibly Rutherford - are any of these viable as squad players.

Kysolo as a wide option, Gilchrist from Southport, Jones from the dippers.

Ricketts could then use his Wolves/Wales connections and bring in 2 loan players.

All of a sudden things would start to come together.
