If we can only afford 18 players then the club isn't even being well run financially. This isn't just something to be written off as one of those things.

Or the flip side is , the club IS being run well financially (ie to try and not get into debt etc) and that the budget we have is a knock on from that.

Without anyone in the know, or figures etc its hard to make any call.

I'm not saying a squad of 18 is the sensible option, but it might be the ONLY option.

I'm not saying it isn't an issue, but without any confirmations or denials we are left assuming things.

And if it is every available penny being put into the first team what are the options?

Outside investment?
Put more to the budget and run at a loss?

I can't really comment as I don't know the details...

Leo Smith, Tharme, Carrington and Rutherford are four of them, loans look like two more. Nothing against any of them but there can't be much money going there and you'd expect those names mentioned would be squad players. I suspect we're giving so much money to three or four players that the knock on in quality elsewhere is biting. That isn't the club having no choice but to have 18 men but being sidelined into making big statements with certain signings and hoping they drag the rest through. It's not prudence or necessity at all.

I don't think I have a problem with us signing Jordan Archer. I only have a problem if he has the squad number 9 and not 27 (say)
