But his position still exists so still needs replacing.

In reality you need to complement Wedgbury's defensive play with the skills he lacks alongside him, not throw the baby out with the bath water just because waaaaaaa we came tenth and we want blood. We could have done that this year with a 433 but for some reason chose not to. The scourge of this club at the moment is the boom and bust; if we move on someone like Wedgbury it probably means the usual dozen new players and the same old wait for methods to take hold.
To be fair, only a minority share this silly negative view about Wedgbury, let's not tar everyone with the same brush.

He's an important part of next year's jigsaw, I'd be amazed if he was allowed to leave.

Wedge is great at what he is in the side to do. We cant have a midfield of tiki-taka David Silva style players, we need some creative yes but we need a Breaker, which Wedge does well. Get the right man or two (hopefully 2) with him he will be fine.

His passings not great, but he is so good at the other aspects of the game we cant afford to lose him, but make sure he has two other midfielders alongside him that compliment him.

I can only say that if we replace the whole team with a better standard than him then I truly believe we will win the league.

BTW I understand that he commutes from Sheffield so perhaps he could be tempted nearer home ?
Without knowing what Sams preferred formation is then its not so cut and dried.

I was just trying to say that the CM needs a couple of players that are actually passers of the ball. If were going to set up 433 then Wedgbury would have a part to play behind the other 2 CMs and the width would have to be provided by attacking FBs and 2 wide players that could also track back.

If however its 442 then that limits us in terms of width and we saw that all season. With Wedgbury a 442 becomes a 4132 and we get dominated in the midfield. If Sam goes down this formation then the 3 other midfielders need to be far more mobile than we had this season.

Its a complicated situation to accommodate a defensive formation when we all want to see attacking football

Well actually you said he can go and quickly !
As I said he has limitations but I still believe he can do a job for us provided he has players with more flair around him. when you are 1-0 up away at Bromley for example you need people who will tackle and put themselves on the line and hopefully prevent you succumbing to a late sucker punch - I'm not bitter

That was in reply to the comment that he was disillusioned. If he doesn't want to play then fine but don't drag it out

Totally agree. He's very good at this level at breaking up play and organising. He needs to be in a midfield 3 with a Mark Jones type who can create and score
