They won’t though as they've already surrendered to being unable or unwilling to invest the required time & effort and so they whinge and constantly criticise instead and then hate themselves for not being active and doing more and that’s where the self-loathing comes in.

I have known Pete Jones since 1977, when he was still in school. No one is beyond criticism, but Pete is so wrapped up in Wrexham FC. I can’t think of anyone who has devoted more of his time to the club.
