I don't disagree at all that it would be great if we had more people involved. Looking at Exeter's board, the main thing that strikes me is that it is bigger, which by definition will give a more diverse skill set. Although I'm not sure if this list is a combination of the trust and club boards maybe?

The question is how do we find people with the right skill set who want to volunteer to do this work? I doubt we are turning people away.

It really is down to the club to actively seek them out and invite them in rather than the other way around.

Thanks BV. Someone has seen the same light.
Without doubt we could do with more skills on the head table. It would also help the heavy workload of the existing board members.

Bringing in the right, fresh face can also question and break down the 'group think' that inevitably gets into any organization.

As Pagl rightly points out sometimes you need to accept what you don’t have and go and find it. The additional skill set needed might be the sort of person that needs to be approached. Our board make up looks very safe, much like the team it looks defensively solid and maybe lacks a little creativity to come up with the unexpected. Safe can be good - arguably we had a period where safe was good and just what was needed - all business needs an injection of ideas at some point, someone to challenge and even create tension.

I don't know the answer all I know is that we should have some targets - say 4,000 by the start of the season and something to measure against.

We can go round this loop forever - yes the volunteers are fantastic but we need to grow and not just standstill.
I don't follow your argument. Apart from a membership drive.
You say the WAFC board lacks a figurehead. What kind of person would you want on there who can add value. You go on to say that there is no structure, The present board have individual responsibilities which were outlined in the 2016/ 2017 AGM when they restructured things after Don and Barry left and as a result, Phil Salmon joined the board to plug an obvious gap.
What king of restructuring would you like to see?

My argument is many fold.
Club membership is strategic and should be WST.

Whereas the WAFC club board is operational and needs more creativity and more ideas just as BV has pointed out. I also think it needs a figure head and also some with money that could put into the club in the right circumstances.
If you recall its how we signed Trundle

Our board has a wide range of skills, knowledge and expertise and I’d wager much more than the vast majority of clubs at our level or leagues above.

As for approaching new people - who but a fan would work for the club for free? Not only that but PAGL would also like them to give us money. Would a fan who wanted to get involved in this way not approach the club themselves or already have a relationship to the club?

My point is that I’m not sure how we as a club are meant to identify and effectively cold call the very few people willing to work for the club for free, who have the kind of skills you are looking for. I think they would approach the club, or the relationship would perhaps initially be put in place through sponsorship. And we do approach many local businesses about sponsorship. Phil Salmon from AEC is an example of how that can develop.

All I am going to say is it took this new guy from Down the road a disaster to come to the fore. Do we want that?

Keep pouring scorn and cold water on anything that could potentially improve things because we wallow in the complacency we have got it so right and there is no-one left out there.

This constant dissing of new ideas is why we won't progress any further.
