Only true if he doesn’t go to a direct rival.

We wanted to sign Cook from Tranmere earlier in the season and he wanted to join us having fallen out with Mellon at the time. It would have been crazy for them to agree to mutually terminate his contract and they were even unwilling to accept offers from us as a direct rival.

The same is true of Wedgbury. We’re too soft.

He’s the most combative central midfielder we’ve had since Keates. Worked his bollocks off every game and gave us some badly-needed presence. Granted he wasn’t a playmaker, but he wasn’t in the team to do that.

Don’t understand your negativity towards him.

there is only so much money can substitute the toll on personal life that a long commute can take.

personally i was commuting from Chester to Manchester for 18 months and that was enough for me, and that isn't even particularly bad!

Chesterfield definitely nearest and most logical destination, dont think he would get a league team but could be wrong?

I agree to an extent - think he was a decent player and its unfair for some to criticise him for some lack of skills he had when he wasn't in the team to score 10 goals a season or be our creative spark. However, for the money he (supposedly) was on, I trust in Sam to bring in someone better.

Time will tell if that trust is blind!

I agree but he signed an extension in February.

Personally I don’t buy this story we’re being fed, more likely he came here to play for DK and saw his arse when DK left especially after he signed his extension. That makes more sense to me. Either way leaves the club looking feeble

Personal issues with him and his partner. Wanting to start a family, and he also PAYED BACK THE SIGNING ON FEE he received when he signed the contract in January. Sometimes things are bigger and more important than football.

So people would rather we hold out for a measly £10k or minor transfer fee probably till pre season or longer and still pay Wedgebury's wages and potentially miss out on his (likely better) replacement in the mean time?

Best to free up as much in wages now so that the manager has as much scope as possible to bring in the best players possible.
