Ridiculous from the board AGAIN! Letting him go (probably to a rival) for free! Speaks volumes. So many mistakes

Why do we ever bother signing players from that way?

Massive loss imo

But he is now off the payroll at the end of May, I have no idea how much he was on but say £1,000 a week.

We could of kept him until the end of July (say 10 weeks) and the fee would have just covered the cost, plus Ricketts would not be able to offer someone else a contract until Sam W was off the payroll.

If he didn't want to be here, then let him go"

We did the same with Manny Smith. Gateshead let him go for nowt as he wanted to be more local. Quite common at this level.

I’m warming to Sam Ricketts now. Wedgebury is the most overrated player we have had since the joe Clarke days. Just remember, he was a constant in what was an awful midfield last year.

Problem is we lose more than we win which is why we are still in the conference.

What was left on his contract? We should have played hard ball and got a fee on this. If he goes to a rival club then its a massive kick in the nuts.

Cancelling his contract means we save £ on not paying him wages (and travel costs?) between now and August. Seeking a transfer fee would mean he would be employed by us until he goes to another team, likely negating the transfer fee quite significantly - this way we know he's off the books and we have funds to pay another player, should he be transfer listed it would reduce funds available until transfer went through - likely to be a few weeks before season start maybe ?

Good work, no point keeping them if they don't want to be here....... irrespective of reason for it.

It is a blow but I would hope if Ricketts was happy to see him go then he is confident he either has a replacement already here (Wright) or he can get a similar or better player in.

If Wedgebury wasn't happy then perhaps its best. Just hope he doesn't go to a main rival.

And everyone slags the board but I'm sure Ricketts would have had a say, no?

If Chesterfield is where he's heading we wouldnt get anything for him as they are 9 million in debt.

I just hope Ricketts has a good replacement lined up. We willl see I suppose.
But getting a fee also reduces the transfer pot of one of our rivals (if he goes to a rival) - I really don't see the sense in letting contracted players who have a value - simply to decide they don't have a value - and walk away any more than any other asset of the business - try replacing him with a midfielder of Wedgebury's capability - there will be a value attached
