I just hope we haven't - but I'm equally sure we have - been stitched up and he appears as a free signing at a local club - who just didn't fancy paying a fee, and got Wedgebury to play the travel costs card
How much would he be worth, at a time when 100’s of players are being released?

Best news of the transfer window so far. Let’s hope Sam fetches in some proper footballers to replace the outgoing players with.

We could of kept him until the end of July (say 10 weeks) and the fee would have just covered the cost, plus Ricketts would not be able to offer someone else a contract until Sam W was off the payroll.

If he didn't want to be here, then let him go"

Good work, no point keeping them if they don't want to be here....... irrespective of reason for it.
we won't have cancelled his contract with immediate effect , surely?

It will be the next year of his contract from 1 July. He is not travelling to wrexham now anyway, so he would be mad to cancel it during the period he has not had to travel.

And his new club won't pay him until July 1, so he's not going to do without for 6 weeks.

Oh well. At least we can use Wedgebury’s wages to bring in a midfielder who can actually complete a pass.

We’d have got flip all for him in any transfer fee as others have rightly pointed out.

Speight and Waterfall all over again by the sounds of it.
As someone has said - wasn't he travelling when he extended his contract by 1 year. Thanks for last season and all the hard yards put in BUT look forward to having a CM now that can pass the ball.

Maybe ends up at Chesterfield.

Not too disappointed, probably earning a decent whack each week (esp after his new deal) and gets him off the books.

I liked Wedge but it's not a massive loss (caveat that with who Sam brings in).

I do wonder if Sam has challenged him around the distance and said to play in this league you need to be closer to the team and Wedge has been unwilling to change that part of his life.

I guess it depends on what was negotiated.

He could have agreed to be paid up until the end of May, June or this week for all we know!

Just because his current contract runs out say at the end of June doesn't mean it has to be honoured if all parties agree to it.

Who knows what has been negotiated, its all just speculation. All I can assume is that all parties have come out as favourably as they can otherwise it wouldn't have happened.

If he handed in a transfer request weeks ago, perhaps we circulated his name and waited for offers but none have come. Rather than continuing to pay someone who doesn't want to be here, and won't feature in our plans for next season, it therefore makes sense to save on his wages now by cancelling his contract.

I don't understand why he signed his new contract if he felt like this, but perhaps there are things going on in his personal life we don't know about.

One thing to add though, this sends a very strong message from Sam. If you are not 100% committed to this team, and it doesn't matter who you are, you will be gone.
