Re: Formation for Next Season
I like 4 -2-3-1 as well and think it would have suited wedge. I also think if you get the right 3 supporting players to the striker they could interchange and offer flexibility up front. ..like with all systems to be successful depends on getting the right players.

Re: Formation for Next Season
Not sure I agree with that. Problem is these days we all think we are Pep when the bottom line is that it's footballers that win you games, not tactics. Let's get some good players in and worry about tactics later.

I’ve always thought formations are important defensively than attacking ie where you stand when you ain’t got the ball |

Re: Formation for Next Season
From our time in the Conference I think there is one inviolable rule: Don't get overrun in midfield.
This season even the most limited teams have been able to calmly pass it up to our box, then hitting our excellent defence. The better teams have calmly passed it to our box, and then scored. We have sent out teams with weak midfielders, young midfielders and past-it midfielders. All resulted in a failure to get a sufficient foothold in a game or the team being railroaded by thugs. I agree that player quality is more important than formation, as long as you don't forget the Inviolable rule: Don't get overrun in midfield. |
